Hi there,

I'm a new dodge owner. ('93 1 ton dually 2WD) My question is, what kind of power should I expect. I've never had a diesel before. The truck can do 60 mph up a 6-7% grade with the throttle to the mat. Is that about standard for a 160hp diesel? It is a heavy truck after all. What do you think?

Also, do all the 12 valve cummins have that cyclic low sounding knock? I've listened to a few and they all seem to do it do varying degrees.

Thanks in advance!

You can turn the fuel up a little and gain some power you could also add bigger injectors for even more but first you need to get a pyrometer and boost gauge so you can see what is going on. It sound like you are down on power you should be able to fly up a grade like that empty.

Congrads on the purchase.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Welcome to the Forum. I don't know much about power on the 12V engines but I do know that they clatter like nothing else...that's how you know it's a Dodge. You shouldn't be worried about the noise. How many miles are on the truck?

A good resource for Dodge/Cummins is http://www.turbodieselregister.com

Good luck and happy driving!

There is 265,000 km (about 160,000 mi) on the clock.

I'm not too concerned with the power right now. I'm more interested in longevity. Like anything else, I'm sure the more you tune power into it, the more you shorten the life? I'm going to just drive it for a while to see how it is. I'm guessing given the mileage, I'm running somewhat less than 160hp?

If so, is it a white club cab?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I'm from BC actually. Duncan area on the island. I did get the truck from AB last weekend though. It is a two tone silver club cab.
