: 2001 GMC takes a dump in Greenbay

I heard from a buddy of mine yesterday that his 2001 GMC had blown the motor yesterday.

Seems he was driving to Greenbay when he noticed very little oil pressure. He pulled over and had to add two quarts to get the oil on the stick. He went straight to a dealer in the area. They pulled it on the rack and he had oil blowing from a tube on the front of the engine.

The engine would make a squealing sound when it was cranked up.

The dealer dropped the oil and refilled. The squealing went away. After letting the truck idle for a little while they pulled 5 GALLONS out of the oil pan. They then determined that he had bad injectors.

This is the funny part....he had 99280 miles on the truck!! He had just pulled an oil sample at 99k and it was clean so the injector failure was rather sudden.

They are replacing the injectors now, but he is concerned about the squealing they heard on the bottom end.

What do you think?

it will be fine, thats a very common occurance and i am yet to see a failure as a result

Make em tear it down. Being that close to 100K I would not take a chance. At the very least I would have it well documented. If he spun a main or rod bearing he will know soon enough. Fluid gains is one thing but if he created enough base pressure to push all the fluid out then heard a squeal that can't be good.Edited by: a bear

about the only thing that can make a squeal in the engine is one of the bearings getting tight It could possibly go away for a while butsevere damage is done and it will be a problem in the future.

I agree with Tommy, but sad reality is that unless they have a reason to tear it apart, i.e, noise, etc. GM wont do it on there dime. Perhaps the best thing to do is get some type of written extended warranty on the engine due to this problem. Polite persistance....

He is being VERY patient and polite. The dealer has treated him well to this point. When he took the truck in there were 4 or 5 techs and service writers standing there. They all heard the noise and a couple commented that "that can't be good". They are all aware of the issue and his concern. He is going to push for a teardown to check the bottom end. If not then he is pushing for an extended warranty. We will have to see.
