I have to say, this is my first diesel and love it! I have the 2004.5 Cummins 600, with the 48RE tranny, with about 2K miles on it. All my driving so far has been without a load.

I noticed that sometimes it shifts into 4th gear, then immediately shifts into OD, causing a jerky shift. This usually happens before it has been driven for a while (15 mins). Is this normal? I think the other shifts are OK, maybe stays in third a little longer than I would expect.

Sounds normal to me,mine does that,I think if there is no load the tranny has no reason to stay in a lower gear,so it shifts into overdrive.

That's sounds normal for that tranny, it does shift pretty quick and firm from 3rd to 4th lock-up. A lot better firm and quick than the old 47re of yesteryear, talk about a slushboxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif It seems like with the more miles you put on em they get a little smoother.

I love that lurch into lockup. That's when you're in direct drive.

I actually chiped the tires the other day when it shifted into second, but I got the dinky tires on mines still.

I found a set of H2 wheels and tires all ready to put on a Dodge, but they are in California, but I am sure I will find some.

You should put as many GM products as possible on your Dodge in the ongoing quest to make it a real truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Dont do that if you want to make it from point A to point B

There is nothing wrong with the chevy as long as your into that Japanese looking front end. Honestly guys, how are the higher ups at GM going to know that they have screwed that truck up so bad if ya'll keep buying them.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif

Thanks, guys. I am hoping it smooths out a little with time and miles. This is my fourth Dodge truck, and with every new vehicle I am amazed at the quality of work.

You know, I find it amazing how many GM guys cruise the Dodge forums. Hmmm, I wonder why? Are they jealous?

Take it easy guys I'm just ribbing ya. I probably would have bought a Dodge if I didn't have such a great GM dealer that seems to have a boner for giving great trade-in prices!

Didn't mean to brand bash or be insulting, just having a little fun.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Not trying to crash the Dodge camp but I happen to like the competition between the big 3. Competition is what allows us to own these awsome trucks. Look how far we've advanced over the last few years due to competition. If I needed anything to bash it would have to be a gasser. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gif

Now that I have converted myself, I don't think I'd ever own another gasser EVER!!

I think we have found some common ground. Let's all get a beer, and trash gassers and cars instead of each other
