Talked to my good friend today who does auto-body work. I told him i want to paint my 06 camper mirrors. I told him i would dismantle them and sand them for him so all he needs to do is paint. He isn't the painter himself, he just runs the place, but he was bafled i would sand them for him. He said that he would not recomend it because i wouldn't want to loose the texture. I really don't care either way i mean its less work for me... but should they be sanded or not?? Everyone who has done them to my knowledge has sanded them down. It could be he has no idea about what his painter does and they do sand mirrors prior to painting (so don't jump on him about doing shotty work just yet ;) ) He told me he would do it for $60 a mirror plus materials.

Input please... i know a lot of you have done it, so your response is greatly apreciated:ro)

TIA,

I just did it to mine. My dad owns a automotive garage and the bodyman did it there. The only thing we did was scuff it down with 3M scuff pads and clean off with wax remover then paint. However after we did it we both agree that it would look better smooth. If I was to smoth them I would scuff them down, primer them, sand primer smooth, then paint.

I think it would be hard to sand down all them corners to make them smooth. Primar would be better.

Saw a both sets at the fair this weekend. One guy had them sanded and the other did not. The set that was not sanded did not look as nice looked like a rough paint job and just did not go as well with the smooth look of the truck.

If I was having them done I'd sand them. JMO

id sand them, you dont notice the roughness as much with black, but once you paint them they will look kind of unfinished if they are rough

My tailgate handle wasnt sanded prior to paint and it looks like crap compared to my Escalades in the doors. Take the time to sand them.
