Is the vacuum pump needed if the turbo controller is converted to a manual one? Does any other system in the truck rely on the vacuum? Brakes? vent controls?

Thanks,

Tony

Brakes are hydro-boosted off power steering pump.

'88-up ac controls were vacuum actuated, but by '94 PCM did the job.

Vacuum pump is for EGR\EPR on 1500 vehicles, and Turbo wastegate control on all so-equipped.

So if I understand everything correctly- if I were to replace turbo controller with a manual spring type one, put on a pre-94 intake eliminating the egr then the vacuum pump is not necessary?

Thanks,

Tony

PCM would be very unhappy with that situation - monitors EGR status for 'tom-foolery' with ball-bearings, pinched-off hoses, no vacuum, and such.

1500-series Diesel emissions are part of federally-mandated state inspection.

All the C/K truck had electric HVAC controls. (88 and up)

92 and 93 6.5's didn't have vacuum pumps.

I think you can just swap the chip with one for a 2500 HD to keep the PCM happy but I haven't tried it yet.
