I don't know if I should be pissed or what. I left the truck at the dealer today for my 3rd set of injectors and i am only at 72k. the dealer is great, as i have said in the past. i just cannot believe how bad my truck eats injectors. today i had 5 good and #1=4.5,#3=5.9,#8=8.1 I really am concerned about this, but just love my lb7. all my friends with lly trucks suffer the overheat problems, and none can keep up on the hills. i do not want to sell the truck(kids close to college) but feel more and more like i should. it also seems like the injectors are lasting shorter and shorter durations. aaahhh:rant::rant::rant:

If anyone should be pissed it'd be the poor technician who has to change them  They are a PITA.

Just curious but the balance rates indicate more of a ball seat erosion problem rather than an internal or external leak. Do you run anything other than the factory fuel filter? I'm not familiar with your geographic area but is it sandy or is there a lot of silica in the soil?

I am in so cal. I will let the dealer know what you said. can this ball seat erosion be why each consecutive set is lasting a shorter time? I run only the stock filter, and have updated to the dual layer.others that have run the nicktane filters etc. still see injector issues, so i have not persued that remedy. BTW I do not have fuel in the oil rough idle , and stalling in idle and park. I have some friends with lb7's and no issues.

If your failing them that often could the balance rates be related to compression?
Flow test. Flow test. Flow test.

The # 1 cause of ball seat erosion has been silica. Since I've only been to parts of So. CA and saw sand where I was, I'm going to assume it's sandy there and where there's sand there's silica which can be very fine and work it's way into the fuel systems from various entry points. Silica can go right through the filter and to the injectors. Some is burned off but a lot is returned to the fuel tank where it goes through this cycle over and over. I'm in Missouri and we see it in the silty areas of the bootheel here. On repeat cases we've had to drain the tank, clean it out and flush all the lines and replace the filter.

I'm not saying that's what's wrong with yours just that it's a possibilty. Disassembly and inspection of the injectors is the only way to know for sure. Having a fuel sample analyzed may shed some light on it as well. The current injectors are pretty decent quality and shouldn't be failing unless an outside influence is causing it.

with what sraike said, might talk to them about cp3 pump wear sending material to fuel lines and injectors, inspection of nozzles complete fuel system should be done. replacing those other parts might save them some money, talk to them they probably want to stop this also.

I don't know if they want to stop it or not. I know they get paid for it by bosch. i would like to stop it though since it really makes me worry for the future of the truck. I talked to the dealer today and they agree that the erosion is the problem since the cracking problem was resolved. they said even with better filtration, the injector tip material still erodes.

I agree with Keith, I am thinking checking the pump is a good idea

problem is getting them to do it under warranty. I don't think i should have to pay for that one unless the banks has caused some damage.how hard is it to check the pump(cp3?) and what are they looking for (grit) or internals degrading?
