: Is no one running blocks in the rear?
TEXMudder 05-26-2004, 11:11 PM I see a ton of posts about green keys and cranking the torsion bars, but cant for the life of me search and find much info on lifting the rear. I have short truck sympton coming from my F350 to the 2500HD. I want to do the green keys, but I also want to lift the rear to make it at least close to the height of the other makes. How big of a block can I put back there without messing up any driveline angles? From what I can tell the 1500 Z71 has 2 inch blocks (not to mention real height tires and not the kiddy ones we get). I would assume 2 inches is fine, but what about more. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Can I go 4 inches?
oscar80 05-26-2004, 11:50 PM I believe I have 2.5 block on mine but I could be wrong the problem i have is wheel hop that would make you cry

Camstyn 05-27-2004, 12:18 AM I put 2" blocks in mine, and have the green keys on the front cranked to ~2 3/8".
You can go 4 but it's unneccessary and will look silly with only the green keys on the front. Here's a pic of mine with 2.

TEXMudder 05-27-2004, 12:59 AM oscar80, Why would the blocks increase wheel hop? I have terrible wheel hop with my stock setup. I was actually hoping the green keys would stiffen the ride up front so the entire truck hops like my F350 did. Speed bumps are great until that rear axle hits....its almost like there is no suspension back there. I cant imagine the springs being tighter than my old truck but it feels like they are.
Camstyn, You have 2 3/8th inch lift up front and 2 inch lift in the rear? My truck is pretty darn level right now, I couldnt imagine adding too much height to the front. What about under a load, are you massively nose high? I want to avoid that at all costs. I gathered from reading green key posts that most folks are getting from 2-2.5 inches lift up front from them. This is why I was looking for more than 2 inch blocks for the rear. Nice looking truck and killer view behind it.
Zorganov 05-27-2004, 01:17 AM I've put 4" block in the rear on mine. Of course I'm running a total of 6" lift so 4 in the back and 6 up front make truck level. Most manufacturer's of blocks will already take into consideration the angle of your driveline with the blocks. You will notice that they are always slightly wedged with the smaller measurment to the front of the truck. Go ahead and put 4" block in if all you're worried about is angle. I think you'll be more than happy with 2" block though, otherwise your back end will stick WAY up in the air.
As for wheel hop, I seriously doubt the blocks have anything to do with wheel hop. It's usually unbalanced tires/rims that do that. Like I said, I've got 4" blocks in mine, and I have zero wheelhop, and that's running 35" tires.
cheers everyone!!
wsucowboy 05-27-2004, 02:00 AM Ditto to what Zorganov said. except I am running a 6"RCD kit, that kit comes with a 4" block for the rear. No wheel hop, but alot of that depends on the truck and the wheelbase of it. what kind of truck do you have? I mean is it reg. cab, ext. or crew, short bed, long bed? it all makes a difference. -JeffEdited by: wsucowboy

In the picture it looks more level than what it actually is. The rear sits 2" taller than the front in stock form, if you add the green keys and get 2" of lift on the front, it's going to look like the rear is unproportionally high compared to the front.
I added an Air Lift Super duty kit to the rear with onboard compressor/gauge, as I often have close to 1000lbs in the box with dirt bikes and other stuff I take for going riding. Without adding any air the truck will sit almost level when loaded up, still with the rear being higher than the front. The air bags aren't neccessary, your truck will probably never be nose high, unless you've got a LOT of weight in the box, but the same thing would happen with the truck sitting at the stock level. I just put them on so that my lights don't blind people too bad at night with a load in the back. With the 2" lift and 35" tires they are on the verge of being mistaken for high beams even when empty.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
ChevyHDGert 05-27-2004, 09:43 AM Yea, the trucks come stock with the rear about 2" higher than the front so with the green keys, you'll be level and when loaded, the rear will be lower than the front.
I cranked on my t-bars to get about 2" up front and I added a 2" lift block for the rear so I still have the factory nose dive but I am just 2" higher all the way around than a stock HD.
I want to install the green keys to maybe get another 1/2" out of the front to make it a little more level. My ride is pretty harsh right now so I'm also hoping the green keys might make it a little better (depends on who you ask). I have also added some Rancho 9000 shocks.
Kennedy 05-27-2004, 10:04 AM Just FYI...
Blocks increase the leverage applied to the springs during axle wrap.
Myself, I added 1 leaf in the rear. I feel that it rides much better than stock with the increase in spring rate and longer travel in the first stage.
Dmax Tim 05-27-2004, 10:19 AM John did u use an AAL or an extra stock leaf?
BTW AAL=add-a-leaf
TEXMudder 05-27-2004, 11:00 AM Sounds like 2 inch is what I need. Any thoughts on where to get one? I noticed that SuperLift has some generic ones. Also where can I get longer u-bolts?
8.1GASSER 05-27-2004, 11:47 AM Superlift part numbers
1.5" kit--3816
2" kit--3825
both come with new u-bolts, nuts, and washers. You can try Summit or 4wheel parts for pricing and availability.

JimWilson 06-02-2004, 01:43 PM I've got the 2" Superlift block in my truck.
