Wolford 08-07-2006, 08:59 PM Questions:
What is needed to run consistantly in the 12s
What tires are best for the strip??
Seee sig for details on my LLY. I am tired of losing to everything.
IdahoRob 08-07-2006, 11:34 PM $40K and you can have mine. 27k easy miles on it. Only drive it to take the kids to school and to the grocery store... and a couple trips to the strip.
DURAtotheMAX 08-08-2006, 12:03 AM its going to be a lot harder with those big tires and heavy bumpers..
IdahoRob 08-08-2006, 10:47 AM Tires 265's or 285's

Wolford 08-08-2006, 12:20 PM Well the thing is I got beat by a truck just like mine except LB7 and stock tranny, I mean he killed me and our trucks are exactly the same apperance wise.
IdahoRob 08-08-2006, 01:07 PM Have you logged any runs with efi? That would be the first place to look at what's going on. A good tune with that trans should be mid 13's easy, even with your extra weight and tires. I haven't heard of any mid 13 sec LB7's with a stock tranny, so sounds like something is a miss.
subman631 08-08-2006, 01:26 PM You should consider buying Rob's truck, I'm tired of losing to it.;)
Don't know what tune you are using, but you might consider working with Bobo, he and Rob really have Rob's truck running great. Probably should consider a bigger charger/s too. I have a MITUSA lift pump (as does Rob) and I know for a fact it has gotten my at least half a second in the 1/4 mile. Two buddies who run the same tune and have BD turbos that put out comparable boost to my twins, (at least on the guage) start to fall off as soon as they hit 5th gear and mine keeps pulling hard. The only difference is the lift pump. I get them by about half a second and 5 mph.

I have a friend that actually ran a 13.67 quarter mile with a Edge/Quad stack. He locked it out of OD and it did alright. He now has a SCIV though.

God that thing must have been screaming, I really wonder if it was locked? You can only do about 80-84 mph in 4th gear. I don't see how it is possibe to get through a quarter mile with those times at that speed.
Wolford 08-08-2006, 08:36 PM I am not really good at all with the efi stuff, I talked to bobo a while back but nothing ever came of it, I guess we just forgot about it. My boost seems to rise really slow, but I can hit 30 lbs with PPE on 160 and Edge on 2.
Wolford 08-08-2006, 08:38 PM I would go the twins route, except that I would have to buy a stock charger cause I am pretty sure mine is on its way out the door. Anybody know where I can pick up a used one the works. thought I saw where someone was going to let one go for 300 bucks or so.
Also I have 285's to race on still mud grip though, to clear up the tire issue.

Stock chargers are pretty easy to come by, might get in touch with Wade at ATS, they may have some laying around that were taken off when they install their aftermarket ones.
Wolford 08-08-2006, 08:48 PM What are the advantages to twins versus a BD or ats2000?? Do they typically build boost faster or more boost of what???
subman631 08-08-2006, 08:54 PM What are the advantages to twins versus a BD or ats2000?? Do they typically build boost faster or more boost of what??? They have cooler EGT's, spool quicker, work great with the LLY VVT stock turbo because you can program what the turbo is doing with EFI Live. The A2000 does not build near as much boost, I've had both. The overall wear and tear on the turbos is less since you are compounding the boost each turbo only has to work about half as hard as a single one. I've ran BD turbos on the track and dynoed against them and I have never been beat by one on either the dyno or the track running the same TTS Extreme tune.
Wolford 08-08-2006, 09:31 PM bouts how much do twins cost without install labor?
DURAtotheMAX 08-08-2006, 09:34 PM No offence to those with one, but I wouldnt bother with an Aurora 2000.
Twins are around 4000+ IIRC... then you need a new stock charger too ;) Best to talk to Nathan (IdahoCTD) directly for a price tho.
Wolford 08-08-2006, 10:09 PM That is a lot of money, and you still have that cheesy jet noise. Doesnt the VNT still restrict the exhaust with the twins?
IdahoRob 08-09-2006, 12:40 AM That is a lot of money, and you still have that cheesy jet noise. Doesnt the VNT still restrict the exhaust with the twins?
No, as stated before, you can fine tune the vvt to where you want it. You don't need twins to get in the 12's, but it will give you at least .5 quick jump ahead. I have had mine for a year and no problems. I still drive it everyday, plow snow, tow stuff, etc. No lag, or EGT problems.
I think it sounds cooooool:cool:
To get the same boost out of a BD you will be way out of it's map, as Subman has pointed out. 45#'s of boost with twins and it's efficent, 45#'s with BD and drive pressure will limit HP.
Again, you don't need the twins or bigger turbo to see the 12's, but to be consistantly there, you will need some help. N2O is an easy way also.
Wolford 08-09-2006, 12:45 AM I think it sounds cool too but I like that throaty sound of big chargers a lil better. If I could get stocker for cheap I might go this route.

Everything is a lot of money if you are trying to get massive hp without drugs. Start pricing out twin CP's, a set of big injectors, especially if you have to get new sticks, try pricing rebuilt heads and aftermarket rods. If you want cheap HP without the exhaust pressure that Rob was referring to, do NOS, it's a big a$$ turbo in a bottle. ;) That cheesy jet noise you refer too is a very fast Dmax burning clean and going very fast.
Wolford 08-09-2006, 01:00 AM I know everything is costly on these trucks. I didnt think the twins were that much though esp. since I need a new stocker. n2o is prolly not going to work for me. I guess 12s is a bit much to ask of this truck, I just want to be able to get this lb7 good, he talks so much trash and I guess he backed it up the otherday when he handed me my ***):h . When I beat him I wnat to make sure I wipe that grin off his face for good:D

What is your 2001 LB7?
McRat 08-09-2006, 01:09 AM There are more charger offerings in the very near future. If you can hold off the purchase, I'd wait a bit. ;)
McRat 08-09-2006, 01:11 AM I also believe an LLY at full weight with just the stock chargers and injectors can run a 12 with just more fuel at higher pressure. We clean up 100% when we run out of fuel. There is alot of HP potential with that VVT.
Wolford 08-09-2006, 11:20 AM It is crew cab 4x4 set up just like my LLY, but my buddy put a pred. 120 on it and edge 90 all on a stock tranny, that thing will come out of the hole like nobody's business.
