Hi guys.
I just drove home an 04 Duramax just 30 minutes ago. It didn't start when my wife and I went to take a drive to dinner. I soon realized that the lot boy filled up the tank before we left.
The tank was only half full when I test drove it, so the other half is regular unleaded.
I drove the truck down the freeway for about two miles and another eight down regular side streets.
My question is, is the damage going to be severe?
I really appreciate any feed back that I can get, I'm not a very happy camper right now.

You will need to have the tank drained for starters. Then you will need to most likely replace the fuel filter and make sure that you get all the regular fuel from the lines. Might want to do a search as this is not the first time this has happened to anyone.. Good luck

Thanks. That much I figured on doing. I did use the search engine and went through the 511 hits. Everything I found dealt with people knowing they put gas into their tanks which resulted in them draining the tank right away, but no result with people driving their vehicles for any distance. Since I didn't fill the tank, I had no idea what transpired.
A friend called someone who is a Cummins mechanic and mentioned that it is possible that driving the truck for some distance like this could also score the cylinders since the lubrication might be half of what it should be. I guess this is probably the worse case scenerio based on what I have read so far. I guess it sounds like the injectors and pump could possibly be bad as well. I was just hoping someone here might have heard of a similar horror story.
Since all this happened on a Sunday, the dealer couldn't send in the paper work, so at this point I'm backing out of the purchase.
The fun starts over again.
Thanks,
Corey

When I bought my 03 last summer the dealer also filled it up as part of the purchase and they had diesel right there in a tank on the lot. I would call on monday, tell them your concern and find out first it they indeed filled it with regular instead. If there is any doubt then tell them to come and pick it up since you will not chance it any further.

I would back out too....Find another...a mistake like this could very well have damaged it more than the naked eye can even see...I just picked up my 06 on saterday,if that would have happened, you bet your *** I would have returned the truck
Godluck...dont accept anything other then a dead deal, they will try to talk you into keeping it.

I went in a filled out the Rescind paper today. I found out they are only replacing the fuel pump and fuel filter. I think someone else can find out if it's really going to be a problem.

This has happened to alot of people including myself on any diesel truck. Its not as bad as it sounds more than likely there was no damage drain the tank as best you can fill it with diesel pull off filter and use the hand primer keep pumping til you flush out whats in the lines put on new filter and prime it up. Itll prolly smoke and rattle for a few seconds but itll be fine. This being a new truck best to let them take care of it but I wouldnt be concerned this is prolly the billionth time this has happened so your not the only one.

Unless you seriously love this truck wash your hands of the deal and get a replacement ride, simple and common problem or not,. The fault is the dealer's and they should eat the loss. Also start wondering if the employees cannot determine if a vehicle is a Diesel or not how is their maintenance staff?

ya i would go back to the dealer and demand a truck because it is thier fault not yours with that kind of thing you don't know what kind of damage could of happen and if they won't then make sure they are useing new parts not remanufactured
