Ok I own a Chevy 2500HD reg cab with a 6.0 and 4.10 in the rear and I was thinking of trading it in for a 05 3500 Duramax DRW crew cab. I do a good bit of towing mostly 20 ft steel horse trailers and a 35 ft steel flat bed. I live in the mid Atlantic state of Virginia and go up in to the mountains to pick up excavator buckets and repair logging equipment. I find my 6.0 shifting down a lot and reving up to about 3700-4200 rpms and every now and then 5200 rpms on the steeper gradeshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif. I was thinking of picking up the new LLY engine with the Alison. What do you think? Let me know. I want to build the most capable truck for the job. Or should I stick with what I got?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gifEdited by: Savvy up

A gass motor needs to rev to get power, thats the way its built.

A Duramax will tow heavier and with better economy than a 6.0 though.

The duramax dualy will tow better no doubt but its up to you if its worth the price.

I love mine and its got all kindsa power especially with the juice on ithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

My sig will tell you what I think about it...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

But if you ever start hauling or pulling things like you're talking about with a Dually, you won't go back to SRW...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Or at least that's my 2 cents worth.

For the towing you do, you need the D-Max. It would be well worth the money. I can't believe you pull a 35 footer with it. My buddy has a 6.0 also and he is also gonna trade for a Duramax, after riding in my truck with a trailer behind it. You will not go back to gas power after having a diesel. Good luck in your search for a truck.

I think that if you are working that little Gas truck the way you describe, I say go to a Diesel, and you will never want a gas engine again. Your truck is three model years old now, so you shouldn't get burnt too bad.

Well that’s all the advice I need. I want to get a new truck that is built for the job. I want it and yall reassured me so that’s what I’m gonna get. Now what to order… well have to get the 3500 DRW with LLY/A combo, Locking diff, dual 105 alternators, hemm do they still offer the PTO tranny option? So what do you think?Edited by: Savvy up

PTO provision only on chassis cab models, not pickup Duallies.

Unless you plan on using the PTO feature then why worry about ir.

The D/A dually is more than up to the tasks........

Buy what you can afford.......if loaded is affordable .....check all them order boxes.

Good Luck........

Yea I would use the PTO to power my welder if it could put out the power. The big question is how to beef it up power wise. I have been picking through this sight and some others and i think what it comes down to is personal preference with what to buy. But if you have an opinion let me know it. What to get the Banks 6gun, edge juice, Diablo or Quadzilla?

Well you'll have a better idea of what kind of programmer/module you might like after your truck comes.

Quad has a box out, TTS and Edge are running Beta's, not sure about BD, haven't seen anything about Banks and a Beta, but I'm sure they're working on one.

Picking one involves a lot of personal preference about what you want your truck to do, and who's product you like best. Do some searches and spend some time hanging out in the power and performance section of the forum. I suspect that experiences and opinions folks have about products built for the LB7 will pretty much carry over when the various manufacturers release LLY stuff.

Oh, I don't know what the situation would be for the 2005 models, but the '04's got put on production hold for the dual alts, then they even cut out that option for the end of the production run. Kit's are available for putting them on later if you have a problem getting them from the factory.

Good luck on your experience with time slowing to a crawl while you wait for your ordered truck to arrive...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
