I have installed the Hypertech and was impressed with the power I got running on stage 3. I have replaced my stock air filter wiht a K&N. What will I gain from blocking the EGR and installing a boost stick. What are the side effects of these mods? I never tow or haul with this truck and just want the most power I can get with a couple of "bolt on items". What combo should I add to my programmer? Thanks for all your help:help2:

Blocking the EGR and adding boost are both good upgrades as is a full 4" exhaust.

I won't get into the dabate over filters, but this is what I run on my 2005:

On an unboosted Predator 100 LLY, you will see a .25 drop in 1/4mi ET's by running a Fingers Boost Stick.

Blocking the EGR will stop "surging" you see on some tuners when you straight pipe a truck. It is worth a couple of tenths if you have the surge.

Air induction changes has a lower $/HP ratio than other mods and sometimes can create CEL issues.

If you are into big power, PPE makes some wicked tuners for your truck, as well as an "adjustable" boost controller where you can change boost from inside your cab. However, tuning over 85rwhp decrease trans life on stock transmissions, and race tunes will smoke your trans almost immediately.

Turbo back exhaust is what I would do next .........and keep the cat around in case you need to slap it back on for a dealer visit !!

does adding boost on top of my programmer add power. I know on gas engines adding boost always adds power, not sure about diesels. Has anyone DYNO tested a boost stick and if so what did you gain?

No, adding boost does not always make more power in a diesel. Without the fuel, the extra air is just parasitic loss.

With a 375rwhp "unboosted" tune, adding a Finger Boost stick dropped ET's .25 seconds in the 1/4. That's about 25rwhp. Good bang for the $.

thanks mccrat. What is ther story on blocking EGR. Why are people doing it?

1) To avoid carbon buildup on the intake and valves.

2) When running Big Tunes, you can blow the EGR open even if programmed out, and run slower.
