: confused about rear end oil for G80
04ROB 05-25-2004, 07:18 PM Dealer gives me a GM part # for the rear end oil of 89021678 says its full synthetic 75W-90 and retail is $16.95 Canadian $'s per liter. Is this the same as the grape juice aka "holy water"?
In the book it says 10953455.
These are apparently Canadian part #'s. Big difference in price for approx the same amount.
I need to change the rear, http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Thanks
Rob
Norskeole 05-25-2004, 08:36 PM I use Mobil synthetic in the rear end about $7.00 per quart

JimWilson 05-26-2004, 12:54 PM I also use M1. It's equal to, or better then, the GM stuff. And it's a LOT cheaper.
04ROB 05-26-2004, 02:46 PM Ok here's a new twist to this,
General motors tells me that the US part # 12378261, equiv Canadian part # is 10953455.
This Canadian part # is now changed to 89021678 and there is a revised price at $16.95 per liter. This is of course Canadian dollars.
If this is fact then the price of "grape juice" has gone down quite a bit. Can any one confirm any of this info????
Yes I can use M1, or Ams, but if I should have any warrenty issues you know who they are going to point the finger at. I'll wait till I get a few miles in before switching.

skibum 05-26-2004, 05:05 PM They cannot void warranty, or anything else for that matter, because you chose to use Mobil as long as it is ceritifed, and it is.
ratlover 05-26-2004, 05:16 PM The book says or equivilent I do believe. They cant screw you on warrantee unless they prove what you did or didnt do caused the problem.
04ROB 05-26-2004, 05:31 PM I hear ya, however,....
The General specifies that it must meet GM specification 9986115.
And that is where they can get ya,
I really doubt they would get that picky, but they have you over a barrel.
