Measure and see. I do not know if the bed dimensions changed, but a tape measure will tell you for sure.

I was told that when the body style changed in 2001, I think, the previous years toppers would not fit correctly, that makes trying to find a used one more difficult. Dave

I don't know about the long box, but I do know the short box is 1/2" longer than my 98 was and the width is the same. I used my tonneau cover off the 98 on my 2003 but cheated a 1/4" on each end. It still covers on the ends, but not as much. I just couldn't see spending more money on a new tonneau cover when you really can't see the difference.

I have a Brahma topper from a 95 Chevy extended cab short bed that I kept and occasionally put on my 02 Chevy crew cab short bed. The width and length are ok but the angle of the front of the topper doesn't match the back of the cab - they're farther apart at the top. It's not too ugly once every 6 months or so but I wouldn't want to look at it every day.

I've owned an 88, a 99 and now a 2003. All of them reqiured a different top if you wanted it to fit and look right. I bought my 99 used and it had a top on it from the owners previous truck. It didn't fit quite right and eventually cracked.

95 topper on a 04...Dad is that you????

My dad wanted to save some $$$ and paint his topper off his 95 to use on his NBS truck. Yes they will "fit" on there but the cabs are different and the lines are not even close. Sell the old topper and save the $$$ you were going to spend painting the old topper and buy one that fits perfect.

Dad still uses the bed mat from his old truck even though it doesn't fit. Keeps the end rolled up. Looks stupid but I guess it works for him! Edited by: 03GMC2500HD

Define Fit?

The 88-98 top rails share the same inside dimensions with the 99-Current trucks. The rails are wider on the 99-C, so the shell will not come all the way to the edge but it will fit. I wouldn’t want it on my truck but have seen it done many times. It does work but looks ……..

Another snag or two comes into play. The 88-98 ex-cab and regular cab have different cab angles. A lot is going to depend on the Shell manufacturer. A quality manufacture will build a mold to fit the difference. Therefore, due to the angle on the back of the cab, a regular cab 88-98 shell will fit a ex-cab 88-98 truck. Looking at the side you can see the angle is off, but it is not too bad. Most custom fit ex-cab 88-98 shells will not fit a regular cab, the cab and shell will touch. The 88-98 crew cabs are the same as the regular cabs.

On the 99-C trucks, the Regular cab and the Extended Cabs are the same. The 2001-C crew cabs have the different cab angles. Some manufacturers use the standard model on the crew cab and note that it will not fit well.

You didn’t say what cab either truck was, but it will be a factor in the fit. Regardless set it on the truck and make sure you are happy with the way it fits before painting. If you are worried about the color, I don’t think you are not going to like the way it fits on your truck.

Here is a CoverMaster Fit Guide (http://www.covermasterinc.com/productAvailabilityChart.htm) that shows some of the things I’m talking about.
