I was wondering if anybody knows whether or not the newer style tailgate rail protector will fit the 2001? I have the one which actually is double sided taped down to the tailgate. However when I peel it up a bit I do see holes where it looks like it could accept the newer style. I like the newer style better as it protrudes out a bit and seems more robust.

Anybody?

Thanks in advance

Jeff

I have them sitting at my friends NAPA as we type.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I think they are the only ones that will cover our holes.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Jeff,

If you're talking about the GM part that's, for lack of a better description, extended back from the top of the tailgate then I believe it will fit.

Or at least the guy at the Chevy dealership where my extra stuff was installed showed me one on his truck. Said he liked the looks of it better and it fit the pre-drilled holes in his tailgate.

Jeff,

I have one that came off (when new) a 03' Silverado K1500 (gasser). I'll take a pic if you're interested.

Just eliminate it and the OEM holes completely. When I did my Line-X, I had them to an "Over the tailgate" application, so I removed that useless crap GM put on there as a guard, and they sprayed over the rail and covered the stock holes. Looks great.

Free OEM guard off my '03, just pay for shipping.
