I posted where I helped a buddy install the finger stick yesturday, it threw a P0402 code today, too much EGR flow or something. The finger stick is wired in right and it was soldered, I checked it once again just a little while ago. Right now his truck only has the blocker plate and the finger stick, nothing else engine/intake/exhaust wise. I cleared the code (only one) and started it back up and let it idel. The 0420 came back after a very short period of time (silent code, no light) so I cleared it again and we drove around for 10 minutes or so. I checked again and nothing. I did not bring my multimeter or I would have tested the stick per the instructions but the finger stick did have LBZ written on it. One thing that I did notice was that the lower wire on the EGR plug that is on the passenger side is tan on his LBZ, however the instructions said to just find that wire and not to worry about color. I am dead nuts sure that the blue EGR wire went to the correct place (lower pass side wire) and it is soldered tight. Any help would be appreciated.

Just make sure that the Blue FS wire is soldered to the Tan EGR wire. If that is correct then check the MAF connections. Check the In/Out first to make sure they are not reversed. The move on to Power/Ground and check those. If still nothing, PM Fingers about it.

I am about to go and grab my multimeter to start looking, but all of the connections are good to go.

Thats unfortunate :(
... would have been easier if one of the wires was in the wrong loc

I have problems also but do not know how to check the voltage and were to read it.

I just brought his truck home and left him mine in case he has to use it to get to work tomorrow, I feel guilty as I am the one who installed it. Anyway, I am about to start checking things with the multimeter will update later.

Ok, ground is good, power is good, but I am only getting 1.048 volts out of the tan EGR control wire at idel, it goes down to 1.001 when the engine is off. According the the instructions that came with the fingers stick it should be 1.25v if there is a code (there is not one right now) 3.00v at idel, and 5.00v at rpm. What is going on here? Is the EGR bad? It never threw a code that I know of (he never said anything) until the finger stick was on. ???

Oh, I used a LBZ predator to read codes, but no program downloaded as he recieved today and code popped on the way home. Would it read all pertanent EGR codes?

LBZs are different. The instructions are warmed over LLY guidence. The voltage you read is correct BUT you don't know if the stick itself is getting the signal. Pierce the blue wire and take your readings again. This acts like a bad connection on the Blue wire. It may be internal to the Stick. That is, a bad stick. But take the reading anyway.

We must be opperating on the same wavelength because that was the first thing that I did before I tested at the tan wire itself, I tapped into the blue. Same reading, about 1.048 so the solder connction is good. I think that I might have a bad stick? I tested the +, -, and EGR on the stick wires, everything checked out if the 1.048 is correct. This kind of stuff scares me, I would not be happy if I have done something to one of my best friends trucks while trying to help him out. What would be even worse is if something went wrong and the dealer said that it had been messed with so no coverage. Do I need to send the stick back, and if so to Kennedy? I appreciate your help though. If you tell me who to send it to I will get it out for him tomorrow, I have put a scan reader on his OBDII port for now, it automatically resets silent codes before they hit the Check Engine Light so that it never shows, but this is of course a bandaid for now... Just let me know what I need to do.
