Gentlemen

I've got a 2004 LB7 with 9,900 miles on it. I changed oil, etc at 5000 and was getting ready to change the oil again at 10,000. (I use Delo 400, 10 qts.)

I shut off the truck when I got home last night, waited 15-20 minutes and checked the oil level, just out of curiousity. It was about 1 qt low (meaning I barely saw oil on the dipstick).

I pulled 12k for about 250 miles during this oilchange, otherwise, it's been bobtailing around. My wife and I commute in the truck everyday(thanks oil producers) so we drop the rugrat off at daycare, which means 15-30 minutes worth of idling daily.

My question is this: is this level of oil consumption normal for the first 10k miles on a Duramax?Edited by: CStone

9000 miles on my 2004 LB7 and I haven't lost a drop, at least yet. No major towing, though. This includes a run down to California in April averaging 80 MPH.

That is not bad oil comsumption. My wife and I owned a GMC Jimmy it used it's first quart in 200 miles. We drove it for 10k miles while we di*ked around with the dealer doing oil consumption test. After 10k we told them we would do it one more time. At 10k miles it used a quare in just under 950 miles. For the 4.3 1000 miles was the cutoff point so the dealer made us heck of a deal on a new one. (basickly it cost me a thousand dollars in payments and I got a new vehicle that cost $2k more than the original for the same 5 year payment. I was happy.

I found it in the TSb section it states that for our trucks uner normal use the truck should use a little less than a quart of oil in 100 hours.

Thanks for the feedback. I saw that TSB as well. 100 hrs, though, is 5000 miles if you average 50 MPH. We'll see. I've got to change the oil again this weekend (almost 10k exactly), so I'll keep better notes on mileage/hrs/oil level this next 5000 miles and see if the oil consumption changes.

I assumed that this situation was not TOO far fromt he norm, or some of the knowledgeable (and extremely helpful) ppl here would have chimed in that "Hey you need to get that checked out..."
