My 2004 LLY with 4000 miles has at times not wanted to ingage in reverse. When put in reverse it would go nowhere for a few seconds then very slowly begin to pump up pressure after a few seconds untill it becomes normal. This always happens when first starting the truck and going from park to reverse. Once it starts to work correctly it is fine for the rest of the day. Any one ever have that happen ?

There are only a few things that can cause this. (I would like to know if forward was also affected). Low fluid; every auto trans when shut off will have drainback from the torque converter because it sits sideways and when the pump is not working(engine must be running) it leaks a lot of fluid back into the trans sump. If fluid is on the low side, it takes a while after you start the motor to pump fluid back into the converter and get the flow going. A bad pump can cause this (almost unheard of). Loose valve body bolts (rare). Defective or restricted spin on filter. Hope this helps.
