: Opinions on removing moldings

I am considering removing the door molding, 4x4 decal, and the 2500 and duramax emblems from my truck. I was wondering what your guys opinions on this are. I think it will look good, but I'm afraid I might regret it afterward. Thanks for your input.

I run sans moldings. A few here do as well. The closest truck I have seen to yours belongs to datsbad. Look for his posts and you can see how you like it. Here is a link to a pic of his truck from another thread: http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7248&KW=18&TPN=2

Look about halfway down in the thread. You can't miss it.

I'm planning on at least removing all the GM sales pitch emblems. I'm still unecided about the molding. I think it looks best with everything removed, but I don't know if I want to risk the possible door dings.

Hey Goin' Pullin', you are the reason I started considering it. I saw your truck in another post and fell in love with it. Sweet truck! Also my buddy removed his when his truck was only 4 months old, and I could not believe all the dirt under them. Cannot be good for the paint after a few years.

DMAXPWR,

I highly recommend it. For me it was easier than most as when my truck arrived the body side moldings were in the back seat area and had not been installed at the factory which was really nice. I took the rest of the emblems off along with the black front fender extensions. I only have 3 emblems and those are the "Duramax Diesel" emblems on the doors and the one I installed on the tailgate. I think trucks look cleaner with all the trim and emblems removed, I personally could not stand the tailgate junk. "Silverado", then the "Chevrolet"...

I removed the door moldings on my truck and left all the emblems. I like the look a lot better without the moldings. There was a lot of dirt trapped behind those things. The trucks do look better I think without the moldings. I like the Emblems on my truck, but I think the look without them is good as well....

One note. When you pull the emblems off, make sure you heat them up with a heat gun and slide them off.

If you pull them straight off the truck the leverage will make the other end of the emblem gouge your paint.

I learned this the hard way and I have a couple of small nicks to prove it.

Another thing to consider. I took of all the ugly ass plastic mouldings on the side and replaced them with the clean GMC Chrome strip mouldings.

They look SHARP with the escalade painted/chrome handles.

Good luck.

Gato Gordo is right, be cautious. I just parked my truck in the sun for a few minutes and used some 8lb test fishing line and they came right off.

To remove the tape left behind on the paint, go to your local paint supply shop and get some adhesive remover(essentially Petroleum Naptha). The remaining glue with come off with ease. Then put a coat of wax on area after that and you are done!!

DMAXPWR,

Thanks for the compliment. I'm glad I talked you or you talked yourself into it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif I removed mine on a 90 degree day after it had sit in the sun all day, not much need for a hair dryer then unless you pull it inside to do it. I also use a California Wiper Blade to dry off my truck and without the emblems it is a breeze.

Another vote here for the GMC swap...they do look good with the Escalade handles. There are some pics in my signature.

I am going to remove all the emblems, except for the RWB GMC on the Grille, my FOP Emblem on the tailgate, and a little "Duramax Inside" sticker on the tailgate. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

This might sound really dumb. But is the cladding just held on with sticky tape? And how do you guys get it off?

I took the stickers off with a hairdryer. Same for the moulding?

EDIT- Nevermind, I am stupid. Oh and for those that are thinking the same thing. This is how you remove the cladding. Pull Real Hard......lol.Edited by: Alaska Duramax

You got it Alaska, Hair dryer works great, or just a really sunny day with the mouldings in the sun. I did it new so I didn't even need any extra heat. A friend of mine did it with a heat gun, but you have to be extra careful as you can get really high temps with them.

Thanks!

I bought a "SS" Grill, only comes in three colors, I bought Black and had a body shop paint it. Then I added a billet bow tie. The egg crate was also painted a flat black.

I am really happy at how it came out!
