Factory stock tires on a 2004.5 Ext cab dually with D/A. Have 31,000 miles on the truck. I am experiencing small chunks of tire coming off the tread. Its almost as though something is cutting little chunks of the tires away. I have not been off roading ever. This is happening primarily in the front, but there is evidence of this happening in the rears as well. The tires are Ameritra/General 215/85/16. Anyone heard of, or seen this, and what is the cause?

My BFG ATs did that at 37,000 miles after a year and a half of driving 75-80 mph in the Arizona 100+ degree heat. If you live in climate that has a significant number of days that exceed 100 degrees for large chunks of the day, and you have the higher end of freeway speed limits (It is 75 mph where I live), then heat will really take a toll on your tires.
