I thought I heard they have a 610 Powerstroke now. I can't remember where I saw that.

Yeah, but it's not torque that moves you down the road...................

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Pinch.gif.. i think the torque is what makes our 7000 pound trucks so fast...

It's the torque that keeps you from having to downshift on the 11% grades though.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif Edited by: Camstyn

Yea but they are pushing 325hp and we're still at 310.

The are uping the # on the v-10 to match the 8.1.

See.....Their marketing plan is working, MORE...MORE.... MORE!!!

As long as you can one up someone, people will spend endless $$$ to say they have it. I cannot believe that being able to go 65 Mph up a grade Vs 60 with a 10K lb trailer would cloud peoples better judgment and have them go spend another $5-7K. Sadly this is kind of funny, they add more power but the towing weight remains the same.....so please tell me the benefit short of being able to go 5-10 mph up a grade?

Just having fun but thought I would post it...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

No, torque moving our trucks is a misnomer. Torque is purely a measurement of force. You can get 300 ft lbs of torque at zero rpm with a torque wrench. In that case, torque is 300 ft lbs but HP is zero. When you spin whatever with 300 ft lbs of torque, then you start building HP. Spin it a 5250 rpm with 300 ft lbs of torque and you generate 300 HP that can be used to move something.

For a given HP at a given rpm, a certain amout of force (torque) is needed to geenrate that HP. Torque is also what tears up trannys, becasue it the stress the tranny sees.

When we say an engine is "torquey", what we are really saying is it buils HP quickly at lower rpms.

Torque moving our trucks is only a misnomer from the standpont of you must have change over time of the torque i.e. foot pounds per minute. Torque is force times a distance, the distance or the force can change to create HP. HP is the rate that torque can be applied or the rate of torque over time. You cannot have HP without torque where you can have torque w/o HP. That is also why you can calculate torque from HP given your RPM is known. They are related since one is the rate of the other. You must have torque to move our trucks for without it, you cannot have HP. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

I hope that all makes sense. The equations that define all are position, velocity, acceleration and jerk. You just don't want to be a 4th order non zero differential about the whole thing. Can you guess which equation that is? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

A lot more horsepower can be made for a lot less money with these engines. Manufacturers don't need to battle over hp/tq rating unless they're actually going to make a significant change. A lot more horsepower can be made for a lot less money with how easy these trucks are to mod. I almost wish I would have ordered my truck earlier so I could have got an LB7 since I'm just setting around waiting for stuff to come out for the LLY.

Chuntag,

Yes, you can have torque without HP (like the torque wrench), but you won't go anywhere...........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

My point--as always in this discussion--is that we want to increase the HP to go faster, quicker, and pull harder. Torque is just one of the ingredients which is used to help up increase the HP. 300 HP will do the same work whether it's made at 2625 rpm or 5250 rpm. Granted, it takes twice the torque to get the 300 HP at 2625 rpm, but there is no difference in HP and thus no difference in the amount of work that can be accomplished.
