: Towing in Overdrive

I recently added the typical set of gauges for tranny temp, boost and EGT and was surprised at where my tranny temp ran with an empty gooseneck 18' trailer (190-200 degrees) I'll admit, I have always towed horsetrailer, hay, etc with the overdrive on and with gas prices ever increasing it becomes a feature that I would like to continue to use but it the burden placed on my stock transmission is more than I thought. Does everyone that has not upgraded their transmission to a model that allows towing in overdrive just take their truck out of overdrive....maybe I missed that part in the manual. My tranny got to 210-220 when I got back to the barn and was backing in to unload hay and I had Auto transmission fluid coming out of the bell housing vent. The Jasper Tranny expert says that is pretty typical with the E40D transmission....maybe I just need to upgrade to a heavier transmission, I sure would like to use overdrive.

Any thoughts or recommendations is appreciated.

Take it out of overdrive the cost of fuel compared to a new tranny doesn't compare.
