: Building Boost
DMONEY 05-24-2004, 02:39 PM While trying to build boost at the track, Power break the truck let it inch into the light hold the break and bring the RPM's up to 1800-2200 and still no showing on gauge. Leaves hard though. driving on the street give the truck gas while rolling and boost gauge will show boost. Is the problem the gauge or am I not doing it right at the track?
chuntag95 05-24-2004, 03:32 PM I think your gauge is broke by the sounds of it.

DMONEY,
I also power break till 1800-2000rpm & can't see any boost http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
DMONEY 05-24-2004, 05:52 PM The gauge is an Auto Meter and reads 0-60 psi of boost, The sensor is installed in the passenger side manifold, and the gauge reads boost fine going down the road when putting the motor under a load, the thing will read between 25 & 30 psi. So the gauge should work all of the time or none of the time right?
dieselfumes 05-24-2004, 07:02 PM Sensor in the passenger manifold? There is no sensor, just a tube that gets teed into the turbo pressure outlet.
socaldmax 05-24-2004, 09:28 PM So as you're stepping on the throttle and the brake at the same time, and the image of the hp and torque curve from your engine flashes through your head, do you ever wonder where all of that power you're producing at 2200rpm is going?
The tires aren't spinning, but the crank sure is. Just food for thought.
GODOFALLDIESELS 05-24-2004, 10:12 PM slippin the torque convertor.?
White Duramax 05-24-2004, 10:55 PM I kind of doubt that as it says he has a triple disc, there are only 2 triple discs that I know of, and you arent gonna slip them!
Mackin 05-24-2004, 11:00 PM I kind of doubt that as it says he has a triple disc, there are only 2 triple discs that I know of, and you arent gonna slip them!
If the converter isn't locked it's slipping ....

White Duramax 05-24-2004, 11:27 PM Its made to do that though, fluid coupling.
Diesel Power 05-24-2004, 11:31 PM for comparison- yesterday i got some launch lessons and i put mine in 4wd, foot on brake, foot on gas.. i could easily get 10PSI going before i hammered the throttle and let off the brake..
Mackin 05-24-2004, 11:32 PM Its made to do that though, fluid coupling.
Um ya and when your building boost in a brake stand it's slippin regardless if it's multi disk or not...

Who was givin the lessons? Can I have some?
socaldmax 05-25-2004, 12:31 AM I've been told that something's gotta give, and depending on what you've modded in the trans, the weak link might be your TC, might be your clutches. Some of them are surprisingly small for such a heavy duty trans.
But let's say 350hp or 400hp into the trans and 0hp out. 100% of it is going into friction and heat. Energy is never lost, merely converted.
Diesel Power 05-25-2004, 01:02 AM trippin - same place you were roastin' them the other dayhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifhttp://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Dmax Tim 05-25-2004, 06:43 AM Money, how long were u doing it before u launched?
Maybe u weren't holding it long enough.
I had a tranny brake on a glide w/ 5500 stall and my tranny builder said u make around 20*/second the brake is on at WOT.
sdaver 05-25-2004, 07:06 AM keep holding the brake and you will be calling my buddie joe at suncoast
Mackin 05-25-2004, 07:10 AM keep holding the brake and you will be calling my buddie joe at suncoast

DMONEY 05-25-2004, 10:56 AM I have already called suncoast awhile back and have there TC in my truck and the stage III kit. It leaves hard so may be it is the gauge, hadn't took time to chek the tube for restictions, just seems weird that it shows sometimes and not sometimes I was bringing on the first light stalling it up and easing into the second light. With the 120hp old hot juice & power pup in the 150 hp extreme setting it ran a best of 13.66 and several 13.7 60ft tims were in the 2.02-2.18 range, MPH was in the 99-100 range. don't have the exact #'s for each run as time slips are in the truck.
White Duramax 05-25-2004, 08:55 PM Those numbers sound about right for what you are running.

I can build between 2 to 5 pounds on a powerbrake with the street tires. Any more and the street tires are complete smokeballs.
On slicks I can hit 10 pounds but that won't give you a good 60' time as I can roast those too with that much boost.
Friggin' 4WD guys, you got it lucky........ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

your truck runs so strong i doubt the 4wd will put me ahead of you. stick your motor in my truck and look outhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
BMDMAX 05-26-2004, 10:54 AM I would love to transplant a Duramax into a little truck or car. Talk about a sleeper if you could get it to fit. That kind of power in about a 3500 pound package would be amazing.
Come to think of it a little car with a 5 inch fart can tailpipe would be pretty funny. Imagine the ricers suprise when a 30 foot cloud of black smoke comes out of it though!
Damn car would look like it got launched off of a battleship main gun at the track I bet.... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif
Kennedy 05-26-2004, 11:01 AM Where does your 60 psi gauge START reading?
Many have very poor resolution down low...
30 or 40 psi gauge would be better suited...
grasshopper 05-26-2004, 11:13 AM No Doubt BMDMAX, I often think the exact same thing!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Diesel Power 05-26-2004, 02:32 PM my gauge is 50 PSI, not 60. jannetty special. it starts reading pretty quick. as my max boost is usually about 32 i didn't want a 35... i'll probably pass 35 once new turbo's become avail.
socaldmax 05-26-2004, 03:53 PM Speaking of transplanting, I've been having these daydreams of putting twin Juiced Dmaxes into a tunnel hull boat with a pair of nice big twin counter rotating screws on each!
Talk about a sleeper! Probably pretty fuel efficient too, for a 900hp powerplant. Let the water cool the engine and intake charge.
DMONEY 05-26-2004, 06:44 PM Gauge starts reading at 0 psi but first big mark is 10, but it is pretty clear reading, found a slight restirction in the hose beween th efirewall and the gauge that may be the problem haven't had a chance to check it yet.

Burner 05-29-2004, 06:50 PM I thought that the 6.6 was made in marine configurations? I thought that the Marine version was 500 or 510 HP and the truck was 300 HP? I don't remeber where I got that......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
