Lund Genesis Roll Up ($320) Vs. TruXedo Lo Pro Roll Up ($363) Soft Tonneau.

Looking for Lund comparison. Both offer auto tension (a must in my snow-belt area) plus Lifetime Warranty on frame and cover. Any user comments re: pro/cons of the lock latching system (looks like one hand unlatching for TruXedo vs. two for the Lund?), sealing and clamping systems or just plain overall component strength and quality. Lots of positive testimonials for TruXedo, and I have a local dealer display to play with, but I don't have a Lund dealer I can go see their product first hand. Search here turned up only one comment, so Lund owners represent please!

Thanks.

Truxedo is an excellent cover. I wish I didn't sellmine with the old truck.

I have no experience with the Lund cover.

I have an access brand roll up cover. Might be a little more than the truxedo but they are great. Make sure you compare them on actual trucks, thats why i got the access cover instead of truxedo.

cowboy56 - why did you prefer Access over the TruXedo? I've never seen an Access cover in person, does it have the same 'sliding' style velcro on the frame design as the Lo Pro? That design seems to be the most effective design for automatic tautness and, since I don't believe(?) the Lund cover utilizes the sliding velcro design, I had been leaning towards the TruXedo cover. Also, looking for a 'one-handed' open and 'slammer' close preferably. Thanks.

Hmm, from the price that sounds like it may have been a TruXport model but, actually, I'm looking for a 'low profile' style. I would like to use the Trac Tonneau (actually a Lo Pro made by TruXedo) with my existing Trac Racs, but just can't justify the stoopid-high price. Another one that has my interest is the Tonneau Masters TM-80 Roll Cover. Lifetime warranty on 21oz. thick vinyl top and frame plus pics appear to show the same kind of floating (slidingstrip) hook & loop used by TruXedo Lo Pro. The price is right, but I can't tell exactly how the latch and cross members are all setup. Anybody got a TM-80 Roll Cover who can comment?

Access cover was the original roll up tonneau cover. It has velcro side rails and dial tensioners at the front. Access brand also has the one hand opening and slammer closing. I'm not sure what the truxedo has for storage straps , but the access brand has deluxe straps with clips kind of like what you find on life jackets. The lo-profile access cover is called the lorado and you can see them at http://www.agricover.com/ . I have seen a few truxedos that look like they sag in the middle, from side to side even when they are all the way on the velcro. Not trying to badmouth them.

yeah its a truxsport

whats the difference in them and the lo pros other than the stake pockets are exposed? they seem to stick up from the bed about the same from the pics of them. the truxsport is only a inch tall but the stake pockets are covered

Attn: Access Lorado roll cover owners...

While looking for roll covers on fleabay, I found the following description and scary looking pic posted by a seller. IMHO, the cover looks like crap; all loose and wrinkled, must flap like a mofo on the highway! Is this pic truly representative of the Access Lorado cover or what gives? I thought the automatic tension adjusting system is supposed to eliminate the wavy, saggy vinyl?!
There are cheaper covers, but nun [sic] fit tight and stay as tight as this one.

Turk - I appreciate the input. Is yours a Lorado cover and what's up with the one in the pic? I guess the auto-tension systems work to maintain front-to-rear tautness only. Looking at the waves in the pic, it seems like it isn't stretched tight from side-to-side when unrolled? If you just unroll your cover, is yours tight without those waves? Or do you actually have to unroll, press one side down the length of the rail, then walk around to pull tight and hook the other side rail to have it look taut? Don't mean to be a PITA but that pic spooked me! No dealers around here to see the products in person so I got to rely on you guys.

I have the truxedo low pro and it is pretty nice, the only thing that I do not like about it is that it seems to roll or bunch uo in one side or the other. Either/or but not both. It is pretty tight while driving and with bedrails you cannot really see it from the side.

I looked at all of them in person, got several opinions and would probably buy another one if I needed it.

I have an Access cover and it sets real tight on the bed. you have to press the velcro on the sides after you roll it out to keep the sides tight.
It is no big deal. I have had it open in the Snow and Ice in Vt and had
no problems getting it tight or closed back up in the cold. the guy next door has one with snaps and he won't even open it in the winter. I got it from RealTruck.com and it only took me about 30 min to install it.

the truxedo lo pro is probably the best soft roll top on the market i would go with the lo pro over the truxport better warranty lifetime on lo pro 5 year on truxport. I you live in a cold area definetly go with the trux lo pro better latches the truxport latches are plastic and have tendicy to brake in the cold under, warranty but kind of a headach having to go back to the dealer to get it fixed the retail difference should be around $100 plus or minus

the lo pro allows you to install bed rails as well if yo so please easy to take on and off easy to adjust and all around great cover.

look at your rails one might be more forward then the other. We usually install them so the rubber seal on the rails just squishes against the tail gate.

Check out " Extang Trifecta". Thats what I got, and it's a three panel cover with bows so it dosn't sag even in weather. (Autoanything.com) 315.00 to your door.

Since I started this "Lund Vs. TruXedo Roll Up Tonneaus" thread, I've had an opportunity to examine and fiddle with both up close. Nothing like a little hands-on fiddling, actually putting them thru their paces to help make up your mind.

FWIW, I will declare THE WINNER...

Based on my purely personal, non-scientific 'testing', both clearly are well made. They are also priced similarly, however, IMHO the TruXedo LoPro latching system is both better engineered and more user friendly than Lund's. Perhaps more importantly, I believe the 'sliding' hook/loop rail on the TruXedo is superior for my cold weather climate (probably has its advantages in hot climates as well). Aesthetically, I also preferred the LoPro. If I was spending my hard earned money on a soft roll-up, I'd order a LoPro.

That said, I decided to buy a hard cap. :p:

:ro) I have the TruXedo Lo Pro, I have not had any problems or beefs about it. In fact I have installed quite a few of them for friends of mine. They have different trucks than us but, I have not had any complaints since the installs. My friends have a Lincoln Pick-up, Dodge 1500, Ford F150, and one has a '04 2500 HD Gasser.

I have had different tonneau's in the past, and seen to be sold on the TruXedo Lo Pro. IMHO!!!:ro)

I've got a lund genesis and absolutely love it. Have had a foot of snow on it no problem at all. Opens cloeses great all year round, dont even have to adjust it (90+ in summer & 0 in winter). Had it for 3 years now and was even good enough to swap to the new truck! But im sure the truxedo is an excellent product as well, i like the soft roll tops much more than the hard tops.
