I have a 2004 Duramax. I am in the military changed my oil prior to deployment. I had my wife take the truck in to have the fuel filter replaced and she had them check the oil and it was 2.5 quarts low. The truck only has 1,000 miles on this oil change. I only have 18k total miles. I was talking to a buddy of mine that is a Ford mechanic and he said the fuel injectors are bad. I know after I changed the oil it was full. I had my wife take it in to start a oil consumption test. Has anyone experienced this problem or have knowledge of it?Edited by: Sub Sailor

Welcome to the forum ...
How much did you refill the truck with the change...
If the injectors were bad in this case your crankcase would be over filled as in with fuel ...Totally different fuel injection system compared to the Ford ...
I would just moniter it and assume it was light as I mentioned and perhaps you used up a LIL in the start of breaking in the engine ..

One other thing, how long had the truck been shut down before they checked the oil? IIRC, they recommend that it be shut down 15 min before checking the oil. This gives the oil time to run back down into the pan.

More than likely they didn't add enough oil because the dipstick was giving a false reading. It's best to remove the dip stick and let the oil drain out of the tube for a few minutes and then re check. These dip sticks often swab oil up into the tube when pulled.
Wouldn't worry about the injectors. The Ford techs seem to be used to them going bad and probably figured that was the problem.

I changed the oil and added 10 quarts. I checked it to verify it was full after the change. I also experienced just prior to the change the check engine oil light. I had to add 2 quarts. This is my first Diesel so I am not an expert on diesel's.
Thanks for all the help!

At 2.5 quarts low wouldnt the "Check engine oil level" light have come on???
If you have not had any oil consumption problems prior to this then I would question the dealer you are taking it to.
They may have taken a bad reading or are being intentionally deceitful to make a few $$$.
I worked at a full service station for a few months in my younger years. The owner would put his finger on the stick side of the dipstick, redip it and show the customer they were a quart low. He would then take an empty can with the nozzle in and pretend to add the oil. He did this to several women and some men.
Couldnt stand to work for the guy so I quit.
Hopefully, your dealer just took a bad reading, fresh oil is hard to see.
