Just got a 55 gallon drum of methanol for bio and not wanting to kill myself with it. Does anyone know the proper procedure for storing the drum to avoid static discharge? I have heard of placing the drum on a piece of wood, and I have heard not to do that also.

To be safe you might want to ground the drum with a grounding strap. When inserting a metal pump when ready to use, use another grounding strap (or wire) from drum to ground the pump. Use with lots of ventilation as you don't want the fumes to roll over you in case of a spill.
