DO ANY OF YOU LLY GUYS HAVE A STRAIGHT EXHAUST? IF SO DOES IT SOUND SIMULAR TO THE LB7'S WITH A SRT8 PIPE? ALSO DO THE LLY'S HAVE MORE TURBO WHINE THAN THE LB7'S? ANYWHERE NEAR THE SOUND OF THE 6.0 FURDS?

THANKS IN ADVANCEhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I have driven a LLY a few times now, and the turbo definately has a different sounds, but its just a higher pitch IMHO. It may be just a bit louder but i don't think much. Haven't driven a 6.0 so i dunno..

My buddy has a LLY ....

It is so quiet at idle it's hard to tell it is even a Diesel .... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

I loaded up his truck and when he rolled out I didn't hear the turbo as I expected ...

If anything GM would make it quiet as possible ,that is there goal ....

i also would like to know if the turbo would scream/whine louder with a straight pipe? i know the LLY turbo is much loulder than the LB7. Heck at 30 psi, we can barely hear the LB7 turbo. now the 6.0L ferd straight pipe - it sounds like a JET is taking off. i love it. too bad i dont like the motor.

A friend mine has his LLY straight piped. He had to order a complete downpipe to lose the cat. He then used flex to remove the muffler. I can't really describe the sound. Nothing like an LB7. When it is cold it makes the same jet sound as power strokes do when they are idling warming up. It does have a lot of turbo sound but not what you would expect. I wish I could explain it better. It doesn't sound like any other diesel I have ever heard.

I don't think I've ever heard one louder than a Ford.....that thing is rediculous....sounds like a freakin jet.

Dipper I agree. A few around here with straight pipe and intakes and they whistle so loud it's downright annoying. I don't know how they put up with it and I like a whistling turbo.

I prefer just enough whistle to let you know its there...the right amount of mid range from the engine... a bit of bass from the exhaust... music to my ears http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I have a Magnaflow straight installed on my LLY and I love the sound. It does whistle like a jet and you can really hear the turbo when you take off. I ordered a straight down pipe also and got rid of the cat. Buddy of mine as LB7 with the same set up and he is jealous of the LLY sound.

awesome, i am glad to know that the LLY with a straight pipe sounds good. i get jealous of the dodge cummins without the turbo resonator. i love the sound of the big rigs, always have. i would probably keep the cat and dump the muffler. that shouldnt knock out TOO much of the whistle. it is a shame they dont sound like cummins with a straight pipe exhaust.

How much louder is it over stock? A little, a lot? I've got the Magnaflow cat-back, and it's barely louder than stock (which, I kinda like.) I wouldn't mind it to be a little louder, and to hear more whistle... provided it doesn't drone inside the cabin. I like the fact that when I roll up the windows at 65mph, there is virtually NO engine presence.Edited by: OmniGLH

I've pretty much got the drone narrowed down to the kind of muffler you use. I had an ATS system on my 01, and ended up with the banks dynaflow muffler on there, because it seemed the quietest of the many I tried in its place. The mufflers from ats required ear plugs. I now have a complete Dynomax exhaust, and barely know its there.
