all you dyno guys run at the track. I see a lot of people that talk just about dyno charts. I am just curious. I know nothing about dynos so I am just trying to see what the big HP guys run at the track.

You should come on out and race with us sometime. Augusta is not too far from McDonough.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Dyno charts are just one of the tools that can give you so much more information than peak numbers.

I can give you a few Dodge examples.

My 2500 Dodge 12v - 455hp best dyno sheet. Average 440 hp. 1/4 mile passes 13.80's at 98. 6900#'s at the track scales and calculates on paper out to need 441hp to run 98 in the 1/4.

Darrens 12v - 666hp best dyno sheet. Avg 660. Best 1/4 mile passes of 11.43 @ 118.69 mph. 5820#'s at track scales and calculates out to 660.8hp

Jeff's Drag Truck - 680 dyno sheet - Best 1/4 mile 10.19 @138.7 mph. At 3820 lbs at the track scales, he calulates out to 692.1 hp.

Jeff's street truck - 547 hp Dyno sheet - Best 1/4 mile of 12.56 @ 107 mph. At the same track scales, 5750# with me in it and that only calculates to 478hp. Why? Probably tuning, but that truck has not been on the dyno is forever and I'd bet we'll see under 500hp when we do run it again.

When comparing dyno runs, you cannot expect your best dyno run in January to calculate out to an August day at the track. But more times than not when we dyno and then go to the track, the math works out for the mph we run.

I can't help but laugh when a guy at the track tells of a friend with a diesel 1 ton that on diesel only runs 11's and it is a fully loaded, daily driver. It still has the aux fuel tank in the bed, etc. etc. So let's see... my guess, at minimum 112mph to run 11.99 at we'll be conservative with 7700 pounds. That is only 734hp, possible i guess, but those are running around everywhere I'm sure... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif But then again I had a kid at an import show, ride up on a bicycle and ask what was the maximum HP the dyno would measure. I told him 1200hp and I got to listen to how his 1976 T-bird would put down more HP than that, and how he laid down two strips of rubber that were still on the street THREE YEARS later. When I asked him if he had ever dyno'd his car, he replied, NO, can't find one that will hold it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

So what does 98 mph and 7500lbs equate to with your formula?

So what does 98 mph and 7500lbs equate to with your formula?

Trippin,

It calculates to:
You Entered:
Vehicle Weight - 7500 (lbs)
Trap Speed - 98 (mph)
Drivetrain Loss - 20 (%)

Results:
Rear Wheel HP - 479.3
Crankshaft HP - 599.1
Power to Weight (rwhp) - 15.6 (lower is better)
Power to Weight (crank hp) - 12.5 (lower is better)

Mine is:
You Entered:
Vehicle Weight - 7300 (lbs)
Trap Speed - 103.4 (mph)
Drivetrain Loss - 20 (%)

Results:
Rear Wheel HP - 548
Crankshaft HP - 685
Power to Weight (rwhp) - 13.3 (lower is better)
Power to Weight (crank hp) - 10.7 (lower is better)

Thanks BMDMAX,

Looks like my California truck is still down on power! That particular run was with only the Attitude level 5 + Duramaxamizer. Next trip out I'll throw the new Quad at it and see what happens!

And as you can see it is not perfect but pretty close. What becomes important is that actual data is used and in most cases it will be within 10 - 20 hp.

Even if we use your 97.5 from your signature, your number changes to 472 or if you are 7380 it changes to 464hp.

Brandon - are you consistant at 103 or is this a best?

How's this for consistent?

I'd say so... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I wonder why you calculate out so high for HP. I know many things make a difference, but in most cases I can justify why... Any ideas? Is the 7300 lbs accurate? Your 101 comes in at 515 but your nearly 104 comes in at 540 or so.

Man your truck just keeps breaking all the darn rules. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

David,

The weight is pretty much dead on, the scale at the Silver Dollar Raceway nearly gave up the ghost when I put the truck on it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

Of course I say pretty much because I don't bother trying to strip out extra weight when I run the truck at the track and I have added accessories since that weigh in long ago.

I would love to strip out the extra stuff but after all it is a daily driver. All in all it is one rule breaking fat bastard for sure. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I am trying to figure out the discrepancy on my HP too. The 101 does come out dead nuts to the 515 like we see on they dyno but the 540 from the 104 is tough to figure. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Maybe I got a little extra "boost" from the track burritos I ate on the 104 MPH runs. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gifEdited by: BMDMAX
