Has anyone worked with a engine brake on a Cummins, especially a new HPCR one? Was it worth getting? How well does it work, and does it save your service brakes alot?
Jacob's Brakes are the recommended brakes for the Cummins. BD also makes one along with Banks. Which one is better?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

All of our fire apparatus are Cummins, and the only exhaust brakes we have on them are Jacobs, FWIW.
This may have to do more with the vehicle manufacturer than the product itself, but they work flawlessly nonetheless.

I drove a few firetrucks before and you are right, they work well on all diesel engines, but the best by far is the inline 6 that Mercedes Benz makes for a water tender truck. The engine brake works so well that you don't have to touch the service brakes at all when coming to a stop. (auto trans.)
The Jacob's system costs around $1,100 to buy. It's quite a bit of money just to save the service brakes though....but towing could be another story!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

This is one big edge that a diesel has over a gasser in hilly country. A engine brake can be a big plus at times.

the jacobs wont void your warranty. The pac brake and others are cheaper in price and use compressed air instead of vacum. Im getting a pac here pretty soon, I had one on my 01 they're great brakes.

can you install an exhaust brake with and auto trans on the cummins 600? or will it destroy the tranny?
