I'm looking at a 1996 GMC Sierra with 127,000 miles on it. It's a 4wd, with all the options. The guy's father in-law passed away. It was his truck, so I can't get a lot of info on how it was maintained. The asking price is $7000, so I'm wondering if this seems fair? I've been wanting a diesel (my first) and have read through the FAQ's. Just looking for some experience from drivers of this or similar trucks 1995-1997. I went through the checks I can make (white or black smoke - none) coolant hose getting hard on cold start (does) etc. Engine compartment is clean, oil drain has a lot of tool traffic. Looks well maintained. Any recommendations?
Thanks

J.Q. the coolant hose should take a while to get hard on a cold start. if it pressurizes fast it could be a head gasket forcing combustion pressures into the rad. you could take down the vin # and use the vin check part of this forum, i did after i bought my truck and found it got a new engine at 57k. gotta like that..... I found out that the injection pump was replaced at 99,000 miles from the vin check I had done. The only other repair was replacing the battery cables at 95,000 miles. So is it good to have had only one pump over 127,000 miles? How do you take care of that pump? I'd like to see it last another 100,000 miles.
