: Injector pump replacement

Just wondering if any others have had their injector pumps replaced. I took my mine in the other day with @32000 miles to have the steering shaft repaired (TSB) and to have a fuel leak fixed. I figured it was going to be the pressure sensor (also a TSB), but they told me the injector pump needed to be replaced because it was leaking. Thay replaced it and everything seems to be fine, now. I have not seen anyone else talk about this problem. Taking it back in next week because now the fuel gauge seems to be stuck on full and to have the a/c repaired.

Kevin,

My 2002 D/A's injection pump also developed a small leak. Never leaked on the floor of my garage but you could smell the raw fuel. The truck was only about 6 months old at the time and had around 8,000 miles on it. The truck had a very lopey idle prior to the pump change but after I got it back the idle was much smoother. I did think the truck was down a little on power after I got it back but if it was I have gotten used to it. Seems to have plenty now.

Coincidentally, my truck is also at 32,000 miles and is going in the shop this week for the steering shaft problem.

Got mine replace 6 months after I got it at about 10,000 miles. It's a 02 that I bought new. Dido on the raw fuel. I was on a trip though and I was towing my motorcycle to moab. I had the camper on too. Needless to say it went all over the back of the camper and all over the trailer and bike. What a mess it was to clean up. It had the lopey idle as well untill they fixed it. My trailer and bike are still scared of the truck when I hook it up. Super Diesel

This is a little off topic, but which fix are you both having done on the steering shaft? I believe there is a TSB for greasing the shaft, and another for a bearing in the steering box. Mine also has the rattle around corners, and I'm wondering if having the dealer grease the shaft is worth the trouble.

I don't have the steering shaft problem (yet). Guess maybe I should check it out. I did just git it back from the dealer for injector replacement. The tech forgot (I guess) to put the hose clamp back on one of the fittings for the resonator. Broke a piece of it out and broke a few other plastic clips clean off. I thought these guys were supposed to know what there doing. Kind of scared to take it back now.

I had the steering shaft lubed and so far it seems to have helped. I think the truck knows it is approaching the 36,000 mile mark and the factory warranty is about to expire. What happened to the good 'ole days when you purchased a vehicle and it hardly ever gave you problems? My 1990 model GMC half-ton has 315,000 miles and never spent a day in the shop until the original trans decided to lay down at 220,000 miles. This new truck which cost right at three times as much looks like it may nickel-and-dime me to death after the warranty expires. Hopefully it gets it out of it's system after this upcoming visit.

Thanks for the replies on the steering shaft. I'll get it lubed and see if that helps. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

The steering in my truck developing a ratcheting feel when going around highway curves. The did the TSB on the steering shaft (lubed) and it's fixed. Had this done at 10-12K miles and now at 27K.

I had my pump replaced at 26k miles a few months ago. Dealer said because water in fuel. Pump actually came apart and left me in the street. I had the lopey idle also before but not now. Asked dealer about the idle before and was told it was just a characteristic of the 01's. Funny it doesn't do it now. A pressure sensor was replaced too- could have been that.

Don't laugh, but: Are the fuel pump and the injector pump the same?
