OK, OK, I know this is not a diesel question but I am having a problem with the wifes 2000 Suburban with the 5.3 litre. It recently be gan hard starts. The engine will crank much more than usual then finally start. Just after a hard start it will usually idle rough for a few seconds then smooth out. This happens hot or cold. Sometimes it fires right up other times it sarts hard. I thought maybe a dirty fuel filter so I changed it, no help. Otherwisw the car runs great, smooth normal power and mileage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could be having a problem with the injector poppets sticking because of our California fuel. If that is the problem, the dealer will clean them at no cost to you under special policy #99066G. If they start sticking again or you have already had them cleaned they will replace the injectors with an MFI system.

Isn't there a different warranty "period" for emission related issues ??

For 5 years 50K isn't it,federal mandated ?? Look in the owners manual ....

I could be wrong tho ... At the price of gass it'd be parked anyway ....

This repair is covered for 10 yrs 200,000mi. If this is the problem then you will be covered, if it's not be prepared to pay for the diagnostics.

Here's an example of warranty coverage on a 2000 CA Suburban.

Sid,

I was lazy and decided to try some additive to see if it would clear up the problem. Tried a standard fuel injector cleaner without success. Then I was thinking of your answer espeacially the word "sticking" and went back to the auto parts store looking for an additive that also lubricated the injectors. Only found 1 and that was Lucas that was suitable for a gas engine. Well ran one tank with a heavy dose of the Lucas fuel treatment and problem is definately getting better. I would say it's fixed but I am going to run another tank just to be sure. Thanks for all the help.
