My goal is to up the power and avoid warranty work woes. If I do not hook-up the EGT and do not run the truck at level 4 or 5, will I be happy with the product? Will the "Attitude" work correctly? Likely will use level 2 as I pull a 32' 5th wheel. vehicle is a 03 Chev CC, SB, D/A 4x4.

Yes

The majority of features will work besides EGT back down of course ....

It would be best to install the EGT probe to moniter exhaust temps although ...

I don't trust you that once you experience the power level two delivers you wont be tempted to experiment with level 3-4 and 5 ...http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

My thinking, is that these trucks should come from the factory with all gages, so I think you should install the Boost and Pyro gages regardless of how much power you plan to add.

However, these gages are not mandatory, and as long as you don`t use the truck hard, and never use much added power/torque You probably can get by without them.

Just remember; There are no Gar On Tee`s that you won`t burn something up do to letting it get to hot while not knowing until it`s to late.

Sammy,

If you are planning on running the 125 Juice/*** combo you should have no problems at all running level 4 (unloaded of course) all the time. Like Makin said, one you run 2 then 3, next will be 4 and you will not be able to go back.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif I ran an older juice (90hp) for 20k since new and have just recently upgraded to the ***. My trans doesn't handle lvl 5 in 5th but other than that its been great.

As far as problems with the *** monitor, I had to send back my first one because the truck surged severely. Got a new one and it worked but now the display fades in and out once in a while. But is's working presently so I am keeping it for a while.

Go for it!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif You wount know how you lived without it!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

If you are going to be pulling through the mountains on level 2 I would want to measure EGT's for sure. It's amazing how fast the temps will climb unloaded, I could imagine pulling a 32 ft'er. I drove around for a while in level 1&2 without the EGT probe connected. Hooked it up and was surprised at how hot and fast she gets when you get into it. I use level 1 with #3 boost setting for the daily commute to work, fuel's getting too expensive and I don't need all that power in bumper to bumper traffic. BTW they can't void your warranty for having an EGT probe in the manifold, just make sure to disconnect the rest of the unit before taking it in.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Hill pulling with a load will put you a good ways into the red zone with a stock motor. I tested this theory. This way with out GM putting gages in it, you slowly burn it up over the years. The truck will have to be replaced eventually and GM sells more trucks. Best thing to do, is put a set of gages in as soon as possible. then you dont have to worry about the monitor. Or you can mount the other probe post turbo and say you use to use that location but it wasn't as reliable in overall temp reading (a turbo will absorb 300 to 400 degs). I have always put gages in all my diesels for years now, and it has payed off. You pay all that money, now protect it. When you park the truck, let the pyro go bellow 275 before you shut it off as well or the oil can burn in the turbo and shorten its life. Super Diesel

I would definitely stay out of level 5 (as mentioned) with stock transmission. Level 4 has as much or even more TQ than many stock Allisons can handle.

As for EGT's in Levels 3 and down, they are really not that bad in most cases, BUT it's impossible to test for all circumstances. The "better to be safe than sorry" addage applies here...Edited by: Kennedy

I use one and with my fifth wheel (28') behind me going up a hill the hottest it got on level 2 was 1196 but like I said that was a hill, and not very big but I was passing people http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. I don't know what it would hit going up a mountain. I like having the gauge but have been worried about "getting caught" by the dealer if something does go wrong internally. Oh by the way, YES levels 1 & 2 make a huge difference in the pulling performance of the vehicle!!! You know the trailer is back there but it doesn't seem near as heavy as it used to for some reasonhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I had pretty much made up my mind to get the Edge product and a 4 inch exhaust. This string of mails definitely solidifies my decision. Thanks for the info. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Unfortunately I will have to make the trip over the grapevine without it since I cannot get the Juice and exhaust installed until next week. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif I too plan to use it primarily for towing.
