: Road Force Balance Limits?

Just had my new REVOS road force balanced after 2 unsuccessful attempts at standard balancing. They are better but there still seems to be a hop from small imperfections even on a newly paved road. My question is what is acceptable for road force measurements.
RR has 33lbs of road force
RF has 28 lbs of road force
LF has 21 lbs of road force
LR has 31 lbs of road force
Is this acceptable or should there be less road force?

If memory serves me right all these numbers should be within a couple pounds of eachother. For such an expensive tire those tolerances should be much tighter. I think the machines applies something in the neighborhood of 3800 lbs of downforce to simulate a road...pretty cool stuff.

I had to return a set or 285 Revos to Tire Rack last year. They shook harder than a coked up stripper. Three different people tried to balance them (two were Roadforce) no luck. The gave my money back, but I had to eat imbound shipping (they sent call tags to pick them up) and mounting/dismounting and balancing. Needless to say I did not save any money on mailorder. Local guy only for me now, I've learned my lesson.

What kind of rims? If you have the stock wheels, it certainly sounds like the tires. Some aftermarket rims don't have the hole perfectly in the center, which can cause this problem. If the balancer is balancing on the center hole, and it isn't in the middle, it will hop. The wheel then needs to be balanced using a lug adapter, which bolts the wheel to the balancer using the lug holes. Not many shops have the lug adapter or want to spend the time doing it.

Those are good roadforce numbers. When I worked at goodyear we would try to keep all truck tires under 50lbs. One thing I did always notice, roadforce was always higher if you put a 285 on a 6.5" rim versus putting it on an 8" rim. If you still have problems, they should be able to turn the tire on the rim to come out as a better matched assembly with a lower road force number.

As for the stock rims, yes they are. They were tested to determine run out and are within .002".
Well I am having the local tire shop order a new set. The tires still ride rough. I have since noticed that the inside drivers side front tire shoulders are cupping (the lugs are wearing unevenly both from the one next to it and from one side of the lug to the other). I believe this is due to driving on out of balance tires. They are not feathering, which as I understand would be more characteristic of an alignment problem. I will probably get an alignment after getting the new tires. I hope to crank the torsion bars just to level the truck left to right. Drivers side is lower in front passenger side is higher in back. Love the look of all of your trucks that are leveled front to back but can't risk sacrificing ride after the nightmare the ride for the past 3 months.

Thanks for the responses. I will post back with the results of the new set.
