Good Day!
If I install a Cummins 3.9 or 5.9 in place of my 6.5 is there a way to wire the truck so that the ODBII will look fine when it comes time for inspection? Basically when all of the wires are disconnected what has to be done so that ODBII is happy and everything looks fine when its inspection time?
Thanks,
Dave

The short answer is no - however, the long answer is no.

If you intend to run the cummins you'll most likely run a stand alone ECM for the tranny, and forget about OBDII.

just pull the SES bulb out of the dash

short story, the SES light was driving me nutz so I pulled it.
long story, it needs to be there to pass inspection in Oct. and they check the ODBII for codes as part of the inspection. Best part is if I had a 96 it wouldn't be an issue from my reading of the Vermont DMV website.
Looks like my vehicle will be for sale at some point most likely before Oct!
Thanks guys.

What are the DTC's associated with your 'eternal' SES?

yeah, ya never know, some resistors and/or foolers would probably solve at least some of them

If you go with a '98+ cummins it will have a computer and the obdII data to make the VT dmv happy.

LOL, ya its got a 54321 engine gone. Actually it started as boost pressure. Check vac, good. replaced solenoid, still problem, think it maybe electrical connector or signal from PCM. Put in mechanical for now. Now getting a p1656 for Wastegate Solenoid Control Circuit. What do you think it would get for errors with engine missing?

when i went with MBC I replaced that solenoid with a 50 ohm, 10 watt resistor from Radio Shack, $2. Never had another code.

Took me a sec on that Pohno OBD-II code - good one...............

Not much you can do with OBD-I and -II - you'd need to start with a '92-93, which had a stand-alone 4L80E TCM, but no PCM

Screw VT DMV I just don't want a vehicle as a daily driver that can generate codes. I want to get away from the check engine light, which is why most likely I'll have a mid to late 70's or early 80's Suburban with a 94-98 Cummins. I do enough PC type stuff at work and really don't want to be bothered with it in my truck or hobby. Annoying.

Please don't turn this into a hole in the O-Zone thread.....
