Hello All,

First post here. Man what an overwhelming amount of knowledge in here!

Pretty much clueless about diesels except for the very basics. Had my first big problem with my 02 D/A this morning. It has about 23,000 miles on it by the way.

Walking out to go home from work and I had remote started the truck less than a minute before I got to it. As I walk up to it, I hear it shut down. It immediately tries to restart, but just cranks and cranks. I cancel out the whole remote start process.

I get inside and try to start it manually. No luck. I go out and check the only thing I know how to and that is that there is fuel coming out the bleeder screw on the filter. Much beyond that and I just stare at the engine wondering what everything is.

Try to crank it a couple more times and low and behold she starts and runs for about 10 seconds, then shuts down again. Oh, by the way, the SES light is on.

I am NOT running any performance products whatsoever such as Juice, etc. I even quit running fuel additives (Total Power), because the engine just sounds so much better when not running them.

The only things that are not stock are I have the Amsoil dual remote oil filter, Amsoil pre-fuel filter, and 265 tires.

Confused, disappointed. Truck was towed to stealer. I know you probably need more info and codes, but any initial thoughts or things I should make sure the stealer checks?

Thanks in advance!

Probably just sucking air at the bleeder .... Might have taken a lil tightening and you could have been all set ....

When was the fuel filter changed and system bleed ?

Welcome to the DieselPlace ...

Yes welcome to the forum.....

it does sound like air getting into the system. you mentioned you had a pre oem fuel filter. you might want to check the connections on that as well. have you made any changes to anything recently or service the fuel system?

Mackin,

Might have not worded my post right. The bleeder was tight. I opened it and hit the prime to make sure it was full. There was no fuel leaking out of the bleeder when I popped the hood. OEM fuel filter was changed about 6,000 miles ago.

Diesel Power,

No recent changes to the fuel system.

Thanks for the replies.

Randy,

My PS's computer wouldn't let the engine fire off if there was less than 12 volts in each battery. I'm sure these maxes have the same feature. Take a volt meter and check each battery individually and make sure you're getting 12+ volts from each.

Not sure why it would have fired and died though!?

Well, got the truck back today. I have a Viper Remote Start installed in the truck.

They said it was throwing all kinds of security codes and the truck was shutting down and then not starting. So, guess it gets to be looked at by the people that put that thing in.

Trip to the stealer wasn't a total loss however. While it was there, they did the TSB on the steering shaft, and also put on a new brake booster because mine was leaking.

cargopilot. If I were you I would demand a PL-data passlock bypass kit. http://www.bypasskit.com/proddetails.asp?prodid=PLDATA
