Why does every one think you are their own personal moving service?

Sometimes I wish I did not own a truck for the aforementioned reason. Also sometimes I wish I was not proficient with hand tools, I'm always hearing from my relatives when something is broken. Never hear from them when everything is OK. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif Edited by: Corsair

I built an enclosed trailer, everyone thinks they can use it ALL the time w/ the truck.

Never knew I had soooooo many friends.

Years ago I had a cargo van and got rid of it for that very reason. Fortunately, trucks are commonplace around here. For local moves, it is hard to beat U-Haul as their trucks are enclosed, not very expensive, and quite roomy. Maybe we should keep U-Haul brochures on hand for when our friends call.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Put a hard taunau on the back and tell them you can't take it off. Works for me. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

My sister borrowed mine a few weeks ago and gouged the bedrail with a #$%@# shovel!

Had a BIG happy-hat on over that one.

It's always been the same, though. I've always had a truck and friends without them. Worst was in college, though. Seems like I was moving someone every few weeks.Edited by: CStone

I'm a mechanic by trade, have a 18ft car trailer and two younger brothers. My mother is always "selling" us to her friends. "Sure my boys would be glad to help, just give them a call". My phone is always ringing with a friend on the other end?!

Thanks alot momhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

At least you truck ran. I lent truck to a Friend of a Friend. I had to tow it back 50 miles. He over heated it pulling his F250 that had broken down. Over heated the 225 slant six in my D100 pickup. I had to get a new head for the truck. I wont let any one but my bother or my employee drive my truck now.

I keep a Toyota pickup around for exactly those reasons.

Only my father can borrow my truck or trailers. He has more than earned that right. And he refuses to drive it(says if he drives it, he would probably have to have onehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif), so the bus is safe for now.

I always let people use my old truck to help move people, i dont know if ill be doing that anytime soon with my new truck though. seems like everytime i would help someone move i would end up with a couple more scratches in my truck.

Get a capper and hitch lock. Lock the back window and lock your hitch cover on.

Tell people you lost the keyring that had the keys. Can't do a damn thing then, can ya.

Nope, nay, forget it! I never loan out the truck or the trailer, I have said NO for years, as a result nobody asks anymore. I used to be generous to a point, then I loaned my S-10 to dear old dad. He decided that it was completely capable of hauling top soil, 1 1/2 yards at a time. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Back in '79 I bought my first truck. It was a '67 Chevy, blue &
white, trimmed in rust. Never had to worry about getting onto the
freeway in traffic, all were glad to give me room.

That was my initiation into loaning trucks. Even though I work in a
blue collar industry, there were plenty who did not have trucks. I was
covered up in requests. Started paying attention to those
who loaned and borrowed. Just like all of you, there were lots
of stories without good endings. Some by the borrowers, who ended
up paying for mechanical problems they just could not have caused.

I have to agree, that is what U-Haul is about. But yeah I do sometimes.

Just found this thread...This is actually quite funny.

I am saddled all the time with moving, towing, pulling and hauling stuff. I have 2 daughters in Girl Scouts and you should have seen the look on the leaders face when I dropped them off in a CC LB Dually.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif. I love when my wife JUST volunteers me and gives me the 'OH BY THE WAY" deals...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Some of these moves have been all out treks, From Nor Cal area to San Diego. San Jose to Las Vegas.....I very seldom get cheapies like around the corner....Thankfully nobody knows I have the 5 x 10 utility trailer with the ramp hidden away.......http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifEdited by: Duramax Dually
