In case anyone is interested, I added an inline water/fuel filter for about $30. The fuel head and filter came from Cummins, instead of the names thrown around this forum that go for about 3 times that.

I like this Racor filter, but I think it costs a lot more than 30 bucks.

Cummins. Cummins part #142784-s $17.98
Fleetguard filter part #FS1001 $12.95
It required about $15.00 in steel fittings from a place called Stuart Hose here in Ft. Worth, but it was a lot cheaper than the Racor, at $79.95.

I have been looking at the racor site. They have the 200 series which sell online for around $90 bucks. What gallons per hour should I be looking at for a 6.5?

What is better - pre or post oem?

Winchster,

What is the "micron rating" of the Cummins filter?

The filter itself is not Cummins. The filter is Fleetguard, available at any "Truck" ie International, Peterbuilt, etc. etc. supply house and it is a 10 micron filter, others are available, down to 5 micron I think. www.fleetguard.com

Steiner I'd recommend pre oem & pre lift pump which is where my Racor 660 is, I run a 20 mic as a primary to knock out the "chunks" & water, the chunks in the fuel cause most of our problems I think; using a large body pre fillter to knock out chunks allows the oem filter to protect the IP & injectors longer .

I called Fleetguard it is a 10 micron rated filter, which is same rating as OEM filter, they do offer down to a 2 micron but it requires a head head no in line option for that fine a filter.

IMO 10 into another 10 is not much benefit, ideal setup again my opinion is tierd setup; a medium filt, into fine, into ultra fine, which is where I'll wind up eventually.

The fleetguard FS1001 is a 98% efficient synthetic media with waterblock capability and drain if using with the correct filter head, so it may be a better filter than OEM, from a flow and water separation standpoint.Edited by: Turbine Doc

I use the Racor 445 2 micron filter post OEM as a finishing filter. This leaves the lift pump unfiltered, but also allows the OEM filter to get the crud/water out and heats the fuel for the 2 micron filter for those really cold days.

I have it mounted next to the driver's side battery box.
