: Another Kennedy Tune tested!

For those of you that don't want to "roll" your own tune, I have been testing tunes for John Kennedy. His latest seems to be about 45-60hp on the Tow Tune for a "stock" truck. Just for fun I asked John to whip me up something to roast the tires also. He did not dis-appoint me. I would guess around 170-190 hp.

The truck I used for this test was bone stock except for the tranny, aftermarket muffler, and the new x-box CAI. The cat is even back on.-:t

The Tow tune well exceeded my expectations. The throttle was smooth and the truck was responsive, but not overly sensitive. What amazed me the most was the EGT, or lack of it. Pulling 16,000 gross in triple digit heat in Arizona and New Mexico the EGT was a solid 25-50* cooler then stock. The extra pulling power was pronounced on the hills and downshifting was all but non existent. Boost was a friendly 23-25 psi. Mileage was good to better than stock. This would make a great tune for a stock tranny truck!

Now to the fun part. The 170hp tune is a blast. I could not have imagined this much power without at least a 4" exhaust and a lift pump. I just did not think it was possible. The drivability was still good. I would have let my mom drive it with this tune, but I could guarantee even she would get a ticket.):h The truck seemed like it pulled better every time time it shifted. 4th gear was nothing short of a 7000 pound cannon ball!:) The one time I did a 2wd boosted launch set me into a 300 foot burnout that I finally had to let out of. Man that was fun, but now I have to clean all that rubber off the fenders! ):h

I don't know how the other guys tunes work, but if they're anything close to what JK has been sending me there should be a whole lot of Happy Dmax owners out there!:):):)

Happy Tuning!!

Sounds great, but I would leave the rubber in the wheel wells as a under coating;) That is until it builds up to much and slows the truck down.

Is the tow tune available for public, did not see it in the repository. If you are running cooler with it, would love to try it (live in AZ- just a little warm).

You won't find JK's tunes in the repository because they are not free. Check out his website or give him a call, John has some great tunes and his customer service is second to none.

Believe it or not, a great Tow Tune is harder to develop than a racing tune, and is more useful for most folk. And more people buy tuning for mileage improvements and towing power than for racing.

I see these guys are not to far from me. I think it is time for a road trip.

If you're looking for a tow tune, try the one in the repository named "Kodiak". I've been using it and I just towed 13K last Monday to a pull and it pulled great with good egts. Is it the best, probably not, but it's free to any LLY owner so it's worth a shot in my book.
