: GM cancelled my order !
thewiz 05-21-2004, 04:20 PM I sure hope nobody else has to go through what I've just been through. After ordering a 2004 GMC 2500HD CC LB D/A carbon metallic on April 5th, and getting a TPW of May 10th, I learned yesterday that GM has cancelled my truck order until 2005. That's at least another 3 month wait (pretty optimistic, huh ?) on top of the already 6 1/2 weeks that I have been waiting. I was really looking forward to the Duramax, but after this debacle I don't know whether I ever want to buy another GM product. If anyone knows an email address or a phone number (they were posted on this forum) to someone at GM that may be willing to hear my complaints, please post them here. Thanx for any help in this matter
Steve
How did you find out and do you know why it was cancelled? I'm curious because I have a 3500 SRW CC D/A on order with a T.P.W. of 6-28-04.
Rippem 05-21-2004, 05:34 PM Now I'm even more concerned. My TPW was this week of 5/17. Nothing from the "little bird" or my dealer, who is following the order and waiting for a VIN to appear. It's Friday afternoon and....nothing http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
ldand 05-21-2004, 05:50 PM I ordered a chevrolet 4-5-04 CC/SB/D/A and the TPW was to be 5-10-04 and it is suppose to be delivered to the dealership 6-08-04.... I hope this is true as I am very anxious to get it.

ChrisnDor 05-21-2004, 07:59 PM I just got my 04 GMC 3500 SLT DOOLEY D/A and it was a month late.My uncle however had the same thing happen to him. After 6 mos of waiting they cancelled his order. They said they didn't have enough orders to build like trucks his so they cancelled it. He had to have one located and in the end he settled for way less options just to get the D/A. Good Luck man. I don't know about you but I'm very impatient.
thewiz 05-21-2004, 09:02 PM I'm guessing it had to do with the CC LB ( not a very popular truck ). I'm also beginning to have doubts about the dealer. We found another truck with the same options, color, etc. in another state but my dealer said they didn't want to give it up. My father in law retired from GM and he called someone today who seems to think they can convince the other dealer to give it up. She said she would call by 1 pm Monday, so now it's just a waiting game.
They don't have to give it up..... go to the dealer that has it.
Dmax Tim 05-22-2004, 07:05 AM I had a TPW of last week and mine isn't built yet.
I also only get LB CC, I'm almost to the point of waiting on the 05 w/ sunroof since I just turned 7,000 miles on my 04.
I had trouble w/ an order 4 trucks ago and emailed GMC, got an email and phone call from them and the order must have got on the 'fast track'.

thewiz 05-23-2004, 09:18 AM Thanx for the advice Hoot but it's not that simple. The other dealer is over 1000 miles away, and I don't like the idea of having to pay sales tax twice. I think if it weren't for that I would probably fly there and drive it back.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif you shouldn't have to pay 2x the tax. As I understand it (at least for CA), they will credit you the tax that you paid out of state if you have a bill of sale/receipt.
It's my understanding that the State you live in gets the sales tax. If you buy one out of State, they have you fill out an exemption form for that State. Then when you license in your home State, you have to pay the sales tax...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
NEVR L8 05-23-2004, 07:07 PM A dealer I came to know about on the Vette froums found me one. I flew up to Billings Montana on Friday and drove it back to Reno. I love it. Here's a couple of pics.

skibum 05-24-2004, 11:13 AM My father-in-law bought a truck in Idaho, which has a sales tax, and they told him that as long as he showed proof of registration in Oregon within 2 weeks they would not charge the sales tax.
edgey dmax 05-24-2004, 11:19 AM It's tuff to find a long box I looked around and finnally ordred one it's built just waiting for it should be here by wed I hope.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif
Frank_EP 05-24-2004, 03:11 PM None of this is suprising to me anymore. The whole truck ordering business is quite odd.
GM ended this year's custom ordering really early. I forget the day, but it was in March or early April. After that they were building "spec" trucks and no custom orders. Not long after that it was announced that the whole build year for D/A trucks was filled.
If a dealer stil took a custom build order he was either not telling the truth, or had located a truck that was "very close" and was already in the build pipeline. My experience has been that dealers are just plain dumb. Since all the products are already sold (high demand, low supply) there is no incentive at all to have smart, hard-working, honest people doing the ordering, selling, or delivery.
Where do you draw the lines between "dumb", "fraud", "bait + switch", and real, honest business issues? It is hard to tell, and the dealer will never help you find the truth.
My CC/LB DA is still not in my hands, and I ordered in Jan. 2004.
thewiz 05-24-2004, 05:23 PM Well I just got off the phone with someone in the GM customer assistance and they informed me it was a dealer problem. She said the dealer I ordered it from had no allocations left for that model year, and if I remember correctly someone had warned everyone on this board to make sure their dealer had open allocations when they ordered their vehicle. I come from a rather large area and I didn't think that would be a problem. I also don't know if I would have run into the same problem going through a different dealer. Also you guys are right I wouldn't have to pay tax twice, so I think I'm just going to settle for another color and lesser options and see what this dealer might be able to do for my troubles.
How do you find out if a dealer really does have allocations? They claimed they did but I don't have a good feeling about it anymore. Mine is a Chevy.
JohnR 05-24-2004, 07:18 PM You might try calling Tim 919-894-3161@ Doug Jones Chevrolet, Benson N.C., Which is about 330 miles from Severn all on 95. I have purchased 2 new chevy's from him in the last 6 monthes. Fair prices also. Tell him what you want with all the options and color and he will try to locate it here in NC, pick it up for you and have it waiting. I have had very pleasant dealings with him and he will quote you the price over the phone the first time you call(nogames). My 04 duramax CCSB LT FULLY loaded with satelite, on star, leather, 6disc CD changer, Chrome side steps, G80 locker was 38,600. And you should not have to pay sales tax when buying a vehicle out of the state you reside in, you will have to pay MD sales tax when you register it in MD.
thewiz 05-24-2004, 08:40 PM Thanx John, but I just can't seem to get past the styling of the Chevy. I almost bought the exact truck I wanted except is was a Chevy 3500 SRW. I may just settle for a white 2500HD, since it will be used primarily as a work truck it definitely will look better longer than the carbon metallic. The GMC also has the painted air dam under the bumper ( instead of black plastic ) which I think looks pretty cool.

Call Gary Barber at King Pontiac GMC in Gaitersburg, Md. 301-948-9111. I bought two a Yukon XL and a 2004 HD 2500 D/A. in the last 6 months. Great guy to deal withhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif. Tell Tim Jones sent ya. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Just trying to help. I was the same since they changed the front end, but I had 90,000 on my 2002 chevy duramax and it never did get the fuel mileage I thought it should get, so I sold it and bought the 2004 even though I was not impressed with the changed front end, But I have been driving chevy's since 1974(2 chevy trucks, 2 tahoes, 2 blazers, 1 suburban/2 chevelles, 1 camaro). The front end sortof grows on you when you have one. You lift the front to level the truck out, put 285 or 295 BFG/AT's on it, a clear Lund bug deflector on the front, and they look pretty nice. Oh, and about the mileage-my 04 dmax is an early 04 so it is the LB7, it got 3 miles per gallon more right off the lot than the 2002 in any mode-city unloaded, highway unloaded, city towing, highway towing, so I would assume that GM had been making some minor programming adjustments to the computer all along even before the LLY came out.
thewiz 05-27-2004, 04:53 PM Thanx guys for all of your opinions in this matter, but my dealer was able to work out a deal with another dealer in Ohio and it should be coming home as I'm writing this. I had to settle for the white one I mentioned earlier, but at least I'm going to be driving something by this weekend. I also beat the deadline on the 0% 60 month incentive. As for knowing if your dealer has any allocations, besides asking them, I don't know any other way to find out. My dealer told me they are the 2nd largest GMC truck dealer (by sales) in the state of Maryland. He said he has never had a problem getting any vehicle he wants and GM also cancelled one of his allocated trucks he had ordered for stock. So,who are you supposed to believe?
Topgas 05-27-2004, 08:50 PM In the end you'll get a really good truck for your troubles, not a bunch of troubles with your truck like the Ford boys are going thru.
