I am interested in a GMC 2500HD (4X4) SLT shortbed with a Duramax.

I am clueless when it comes to mechanics..... So a little help would be appreciated.....

Has anyone heard of any problems with the aluminum heads and cast iron blocks ?

I was told this may cause a problem when the engine runs hot..

I will be towing a trailered boat with a total weight of approximately 9500-10,000 lbs.

Should I go with the 4.10 rear end or the 3.73. Also, what would be the difference in gas mileage between them both?

My understanding is that if you go with the Duramax / Allison transmission combo you are limited to the 3.73 combo. Maybe one of the experts on here can help... I don't think you can get the 4.10s from the factory... yet.

There are not issues with the heads on the Duramax. Edited by: BIGMoe

I just found out it only comes with a 3.73, at least in California.

As for having problems with the heads?????

I just read that it may have problems with the heads since it's aluminum.......

I was just wondering if any of you guys have encountered this possible problem?

You must have heard the "head problem" from a dodge driver http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif When I was researching which diesel to buy, I read that on some Dodge majority boards.

Wrong...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Dmax = 3.73; Only gassers can get the 4.10's, end of story...
