: Registration
Melvin Hatcher 05-21-2004, 02:24 PM How are most of the 2500HD's owners registering your vehicles? My 2500HD is registered in Maryland at 7000 lbs.
The truck bed empty, a full tank of fuel, and me in the cab weighs 7,000.280 lbs. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
Am I overloaded empty, should I opt. for the next Registration of 10,000? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
I am getting concerned http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif because I don't want to give the do-right boys any unnecessary cash.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
sprintmod1 05-21-2004, 03:21 PM I would go with the next weight class and bite the bullet on the fees.
Here in Pa I have mine registered and 9000 and under since I figured for the extra $150 or so per year it was not worth it to go with the trucks gvw at 9200.
Oh, lets see what this questions does, what is the registration fee in Maryland for your truck. How about other states? I think in Pa my 9000 lb weight class is $156 per year.
nassdmax 05-21-2004, 05:07 PM But does your state go by the unladen weight the manufacturer gives? My registration states 6550 lbs, which is light for it.
Michigan just goes by base weight and value to calculate. You'd be best off to find out what you really need. I buy a special plate for the dump trucks that is a "weight" plate (26k, 32k, etc). Those plates are to cover the total weight of truck and trailers. Our Michigan registration covers up to the GCWR unless that is over 26K.
HTH, but probably not...
Darin Billing 05-21-2004, 05:24 PM In ND, they take the factory listing for the weight, double that and then round up to the next weight class. So, for my 2003 2500 HD CC D/A, the factory listed weight was 65xx lbs. Doubling that is 13,000 lbs. The next weight class is 14,000 lbs. Fee is $85.00/year. For a 16,000 lbs weight class, the fee is $90/year. For 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, they are classified as light truck and that weight schedule runs from 12,000 lbs to 20,000 lbs ( in 2,000 lb increments) and anything over 20,000 lbs is a large truck.
ROBZUK 05-21-2004, 08:13 PM Melvin,
Stay right where you're at !! I paid $182 for just the tags, title and registration fee. Mine's got the 9900 lb GVW, so I got bumped to the 10,000 lb bracket and got a royal screwing by uncle Erhlich !!

Terrain Twister 05-23-2004, 01:24 AM Would any of you guys be willing to trade? Mine showed up today and it's only $509.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif And to think that this is the new reduced rate. We used to be paying roughly 3 times this.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

Turbotug 05-23-2004, 09:19 PM Metro Phoenix is only $503, I'd gladly take your $182. Edited by: turbotug
jjs3788 05-23-2004, 09:39 PM Melvin, I hope this dosent sound like a stupid question, but why would it matter what it registered at. I still have my temp registration, so Im not sure how the dealer put mine in. I dont tow anything real heavy and trucks under 10,000 pounds dont have to stop at weigh stations, so where would you run into a problem. I cant see MSP being to concerned with a 3/4 truck.

Road Boss 05-24-2004, 12:53 AM My just came this weekend and it is $579. That is way too much for me. I'm thinking about getting my truck registered in Pa since I am military. What is the price for Pa, anyone?
Kartattack 05-24-2004, 07:56 AM Road Boss:
Non-resident military in CA are exempt from most of the registration fees. You should only have to pay for the weight fee and county assessment. That should get you down to a couple of hundred...

My truck is registered for the weight class of 7,000 lbs. My truck weighs 7,000.280 lbs. empty bed, full tank of fuel and me as the driver, no other passengers.
I would like to be able to haul at least a 2,000 lbs. payload. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifEdited by: Melvin Hatcher

I live in Maryland to. I got my registered for the 7000 lbs and thats only $94.50 a year. I have already hooked up a goosneck to it and hauled a antique fire truck to Mass. Grossed out at 21010 lbs. Went right past the scales on 270. I wouldn't worry about it. If your not hauling for a living I don't think they are gonna mess with you. Besides your only gonna haul 2000 lbs. You can put that in the pickup bed.

Rob,
I think I am going stay put, but what drove your transaction to generate the 10,000 GVW registration?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
