Does anyone have a engine brake on their Cummins? Was it worth getting? How well does it work, and does it save your service brakes alot?
Jacob's Brakes are the recommended brakes for the Cummins. BD also makes one along with Banks. Which one is better http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif

My fleet sales guy recommended Pac-Brake which I had installed. Cost about $1,350. Per the salesman, the dealer installed version was about $1,700. I checked with our local (Medford, OR) Cummins dealer and the price was $2,150 for, I assume, the Jacobs brand. Supposedly, the Pac-Brake does not void any warranty (I cannot prove that contention).
Regardless, it works great. I towed my 10.5K 5'er from Medford to Sacramento and back. Going down a mountain, three miles of 6% grade, it held 59 mph in 6th gear. It was a straight grade & I never had to hit the service brakes. The bottom line is I thought it was great. The same day I got mine another guy was getting one on a Ford 350. He had towed his 5'er from Gold Beach, OR to Missouri and back and had to have a brake job. Apparently he fried them coming down the Sierra's somewhere.

They work great on a Stick but not worth a damn on a Auto. Sure you can put a lockup kit on the tranny, but just touch the pedal and it unlocks.
