for the last 2 weeks i have been dealing with afe on the stage 2 intake they sent me. i now have 3 pipes that are the wrong size and will not fit in my truck at all. i have scratch up the inside of the fender and ruined the silver rubbery patch that covers the inside hole in the fender and broke 2 boots that fits on the turbo housing and there is no way this thing is goin to work. i talked to a afe engineere last night and he seems to think i was making this all up. has anyone else had this prob? the pipe is about 2.5 to 3 inches to long

Other then being a tight fit, I have had 0 problems. I tend to side with AFEhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif just kidding.

Have you tried to install the intake pipe to the turbo end first? Then into the filter housing without it being bolted in. Once that is complete (If possible) slide the filter housing down into place and bolt it in. Then the filter itself will be a bit@h but doable.

Good luck. Like I said, mine was tight. I had the old one out and the new one installed in well under 30 minutes.

That is exactly how I installed mine. It worked great!

Rickles, as I said in the other thread, I too had AFE send me a new tube to fix the lenth issue. Like mentioned above the install will work, but you should not have to smash the filter to remove it. Also my filter was hanging under the lip on the fender...not good. Well now I have three tubes all of which are the same length and too long. I ended up cutting 1" of my original tube because the paint job on the two I was sent was horrible, and I held out no hope of getting the correct length. I am still waiting for return ship info on the two I was sent....at least they tried. I would pick out the best looking one and cut what is needed off the turbo end.Edited by: motovet

I ordered one and installed last week. It was a little too long and a pain to get in the rubber collar. Once installed, the angle is a little off going into the manifold but the filter went on without alot of trouble.

http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Unhappy.gif Quality control?

Once installed the turbo whistle is cool though.

Doesn't AFE have a revised design coming out soon??

yes, in a couple of months....

It's supposedly plastic.

Are the filters pre oiled when you get them from ARE? The reason I ask is the directions didn't say and I can't tell. I would assume yes but want to be sure

Installed one a couple of weeks ago it too was a tight fit, but went on ok. Had to do it with the bolts loose on the box to get it to go together then tighten it all down. Filter was atight fit also but it went on ok.

yes, it's pre-oiled.

As Blinky stated; They are pre-oiled and ready to be installed. You will need to buy an recharge kit for about 15,000 miles down the road. With this type of air filter, I think it is best to buy an extra filter. This way when it is time to clean and re-oil the filter, you don`t have to to stay home for a day or two while it dries.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

When you clean them and before you re-oil it, you should make sure the filter is near 100% dry.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do that. Appreciate the help.

The clean and re-charge kit is just a few bucks. Maybe $10-$13. I cann`t remember for sure. If you buy an extra filter, I`d recommend getting the new 7 layer gold filter. It will cost about $72 compared to $45 for the Blue one, But hopfully it is worth it.

I am getting the Gold one. I will then use the blue one only when the Gold one is being cleaned and ready to be reinstalled. At least until I can tell if there seems to be a difference.

I took the filter out yesterday and replaced it with my other one for the first time. It is a S.O.B. to remove, I had to loosen up everything to get the pipe move enough to get the filter out. Oh course when I ordered my second filter my friend and I had no idea about the "gold" filtet!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif So, now I have two blue filters.
