: Loving the Duramax, but I have some questions

Well, a few weeks on the Duramax now, and all I can say is MAN I love this thing. If you smush on it, these things will GET IT! And this is just a stock truck. Of couse, I guess the other diesels are about the same, or faster, in stock form, but this is sure a lot faster than anything I'm used to.

I love the way they run. Its why I'm a diesel nut. They just have what I think of as "real" power. They don't have to rev up to screaming RPMs and then gear it way down, like a gas engine. That's not real guts, to me. I love how you can stomp on the diesel and take off like a bat out of hell and it still never has to get above 3300 RPM. That's what I like to see.

It runs so well I almost think its TOO well. I guess not, because I checked everything over for evidence of a pyro hole, or anything else that had been messed with, and I doubt someone would trade one with a chip still on it anyway, but about how quick should a Duramax run 0-60, assuming stock LB7, ex. cab long bed, 2wd, not a dually? I'm pretty sure its all in my head-- they really do run this good stock-- but I'd like to compare it anyway.

Then, there is my fear of the injector problems. Better fuel filtration is coming very soon, as soon as I can decide what I want to do, but is there anything else I can do to help prevent injector problems later? And, I know I need to improve the fuel filter as soon as possible, but is 20,000 miles on stock fuel filtration enough to do in the injectors? Or if I improve it soon, should I still be OK? Likely around 9 sec 0-60 stock.

Go with the Mega filter post oem with the nipple mod.

Not trying to start a war here but its a proven combo.

I have the Racor after stock setup for filtration and it seems to work great. But if you are at stock filtration now and am looking into adding one for added protection, I`d have to recommend the Nicktane Filter. I have never read anything bad about it, and it is big.

I am thinking about changing my Racor out for the Nicktane, but I will wait for a while. I do think that is the best one at this point.

The Mega filter would be my next choice for a big unit, but from what I have read, you will most likely need a lift pump or some other mod to get around the air entrapment problem.

I have 0 personal experience with either of the Nicktane or Mega filter.

I'm running the Racor kit #RK323313 that includes the heater and WIF sensor. Overkill, yes, but I live in MI and head north quite freqently during the winter and I wanted to be prepared for sub-zero conditions. Many, many people here are also very happy with the Nicktane kits.

I went with this kit because it is (supposedly) GM-approved and being pre-oem they cannot blame the filter for injector issues (last filter before injectors is the stock filter setup). I have had this setup now for 1000 miles and it works great with no air or no-start issues. Very satisfied.

Send a note to Frank Blum. He has a nice unit that fits in the engine compartment that makes filter replacement a snap. Any secondary filtration is a must for piece of mind!! CAT, RACOR, MEGA, anything that filters at 2um is a must.

Mine is in the spot where the second alternater would be if the truck came with it. I have had it on for more then a year. (40,000 miles + or - a few) I also have a bleader that makes for a quick purge of the fuel line.

If you add an aftermarket filter. Do you have a warranty issue? I wouldn't see how but I am still wondering.
