: 2002 duramax & edge
mholman 07-23-2006, 09:11 PM I'm looking to buy a 2002 GMC duramax. It looks to be in near new condition. It has an edge chip in it. and 83000 miles. I don't want a truck that has been hot rodded. Could there be damage to the engin or trans because of the chip? Does this void the warrenty? They want $25000 for the truck is this too much?
Thanks
Mike
jerkyman65 07-23-2006, 10:07 PM Sounds a little pricey to me. I paid $25800 two years ago for an 02 2500 with 25000mi on it.

Yeah well you got a STEAL! :ro)
There is a chance the chip has been turned up too much and done some damage to the tranny. I personally don't want to buy a truck with a chip. Just my 2 cents.

I paid $17,700 two years ago for mine with 148,000 miles:D - and, yes the EDGE will kill the tranny in no time at all. Drive it, hammer it, if the tranny slips the computer will put the truck in limp mode. The most susceptible shift is the 4th to 5th shift.
Ray,IN 07-23-2006, 11:26 PM It depends on who owned and drove the truck, and how they drove it. You must investigate that and decide. Price, I bought a Chevy K3500, CC, long bed, D/A, 36,xxx miles, onstar, nearly every option available, for $26,500 in July of 2005.
PRVRT 07-24-2006, 08:50 PM Paid 20K for my 02 with 76k on it, completly stock a few months ago.
Also if you check the For Sale section there is an 02 Ext SB with 88k for 15.5k. May check that out and be worth a drive, not sure where you are from.
azduramax04 07-24-2006, 11:12 PM I paid 28K for an 04 with 55K miles. About six months ago.
As stated above, you need to know who owned the truck and how hard it was driven. I bought a well-used '02 2500HD a couple of years ago and added an Edge unit to it soon after buying it. I love the extra power, but I DO NOT abuse my truck. It has given me over 70,000 trouble free miles since buying it, so the guy who said putting an Edge unit will burn up the tranny is totally wrong.
blown65 07-25-2006, 05:16 PM We sold our 03 in december for 30k with 40k miles. 25k for an 02 seems steep imo.
Frank Blum 07-26-2006, 12:51 AM I have an 02 with 84K on it. I installed the Edge Juice at 21K. I have always towed on step 2 and run on 4 solo. Mine still runs better than new and the trans shows no signs of giving up. I would not think of selling mine for that price. Later! Frank
imfixinmopars 07-26-2006, 07:35 AM i have 24k in this truck and it has all options and 60k mi. and in nice condition.keep looking and you will find the right truck,or look at new,gm is going to be giving out great deals soon,i would guess.

I take offense! I am not "totally wrong" Maybe ya misunderstood what I was saying...
In the statement: "yes the EDGE will kill the tranny " I inferred that if one hammered the crap out of the truck. I guess I need to S P E L L out what I am trying to say.... If you note in my signature I am running an Edge product. Using the Edge it will take alot longer then say, using a programmer, but it will break it!
