Looking for some reports from those who have stuck it out past warranty.

Give us a little history... usage, problems.... whatever.Edited by: hoot

I know of a truck from Iowa with 325,000 miles on it. Its on 02 3500. Replaced all injectors at almost 175k range or so.. I just put a fuel sender in it for inaccurate gauge, other then that, its been problem free for major stuff. Truck pulls campers for Jayco all over the US.

A friend has a 02 with about 185,000 on it. I'm impressed because he skimps on maintenance.

I'll let you know in a few years--at the rate I'm burning fuel it won't be long! Got 7,000 miles and I'm only a little over a month old!

Thanks Eric for documenting a high mileage Duramax. I have been waiting for a long time to see one over 250,000 somewhat trouble free miles.

I know Brokers has claimed 2 or 3 Duramax trucks with over 450,000 miles. However, I have not been convinced of the accuracy of his story. I know Mackin and Hoot had a huge 3-4 month long argument with Brokers about this , then it seemed to blow away in the night, with both of them saying they believed the story.

It`s nice to know that these trucks will run for a long time, 325,000 miles is pretty good for a new design that is only 4 years old. And his is less then 3 years old.Edited by: hdmax

Thanks Eric for the positive report. It's nice to read something positive about these GREAT trucks instead of only dwelling on the "socalled" injector problems.

I'm currently at 54,150 at 2 weeks over 1 year old. Have had no problems so far!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

There is one here in wisconsin that just turned 300,000. Injectors stuck open one too many times ,which killed it. Truck got a motor transplant from a junkyard duramax(low miles.....125K). Still has original allison, no problems.

Gottago, I just shelled out several thousand dollars for injector replacement on my '01 with 105K miles. Maybe to you its "socalled" but to me, injector problems are a fact. Now that being said, I still think the Dmax is a good power plant and plan on purchasing another soon. Kevin....

Sure seems we hear of Injector issues as they get up in Miles,, What are Dodge and Fords life span on Injectors? or is it to early to tell since D/A have the High pressure Fuel systems.

I've come to the conclusion that, for the amount of time this engine has been out... GM really did their homework and designed (with the help of Izuzu) one helluva diesel engine. Minus the injectors, this engine is very, very solid. And since the Dmax is the first of it's kind with the high pressure fuel system (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), it has changed the way modern diesels are designed and built. Give the Dmax some years to build a reputation and let Allison catch up on power delivery and this combo will be very hard to beat. Well hell, IMO it's the best combo you can get already. With the diversity of this engine to pull and race, along with the relatively cheap power upgrades, it's something that every driver can enjoy.

I know this is a little off topic of "who is over 100,000 miles" but I felt like saying it anyway.

But it has to earn the Reputation for reliability, these Injector issues have got me a little nervous!

I have a 2nd filter and run additives, other then that I have to have faith, it will last longer the payments.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

PS,,, But after checking into the DieselStop, seeing if Fords luck has changed since the 6.0 introduction,,,, What a Mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,,

if Injectors is all I have to worry about then I hope the injector prices keep dropping. Sure would like to see alot more 100,000 plus D/ATrucks out therehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif!

I agree it is a well designed and solid engine. It takes quite a lickin in stock form with people just throwing boxes, lp and nitrous at it.

I have heard that the price is now in the $3000 range. Which isn't bad considering just a few months ago it was more in line of $8000.

Maybe Eric will chime in to confirm or correct this.

A good friend of mine with an 01 DMAX and 65k miles had all eight injectors replaced under warranty two weeks ago. The cost billed to GM was $6,500.00. That’s not chump change and it’s real cause for concern if you would need to have injectors replaced out of warranty. Yes, this is a solid engine; however, I’m convinced these trucks have a problem that needs to be addressed. If GM doesn’t make a commitment to warranty the LB7 injectors beyond 100,000 miles and five years, I’m going to trade my 02 before the warranty expires for an 07 something. I don’t think injector issues will be a major concern for the LLY’s, Ford 6 liter nor the Cummins diesels, because you can replace a bad injector with very little disassembly of the engine. The LB7 engine isn’t quite so simple and therein lays the problem.

I have heard a few cases now where the injectors all needed replacing shortly after 100k miles. They were all on 2001 trucks. Cooincidence or not?

Nice to hear of the '02 with 300k+ on it only on its second set of injectors.

No. Been thru the injector scenario twice. Couple of injector pumps, NSBU switches on the Allison, one turbo (dumped engine oil @ 65 mph due to faulty filter, blew turbo from lack of lubrication, ~97,000 miles on the clock when that happened), alternator, couple of windshields.

my 02 has 91XXX miles of abuse on the clock with bigger tires for 55K of those miles so it's actually got about 95K on it. The motor has been trouble free. I've only had to replace the serpentine belt (as preventative maintainance @ 75K) and the block heater.Edited by: mtomac

I just spoke with a guy here in town who is the only one I know who had a Dmax before I did (bought mine the week before thanksgiving '00). He just sold his 2500HD crew with 125,000 miles. He had no injector (or other) problems. I think he got $21,000 from a friend of his who is a broker. Mine is at 67,000 with no problems.

I'm at 86,500 - no problems other than the serpentine belt tensioner at 45K and I changed the belt out like Tomac at 75K. Kennedy checked my balance rates at his GTG and they were all <2. Hangin' and a Hopin' http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Not doubting you at all here as I dont know you from anyone, but what in the heck do you do with that truck? Didnt the LLYs come out in late December or so? That would give you around 6 months to put that kind of miles on it.

Assuming 6 months: 100,000 / 6 = 16,666 miles per month

Assuming 29 days (average per month): 16,666 / 29 = 574.69 miles per day!

Assuming the only way to get that is highway miles and being nice using Texas speedlimit: 574.69 / 70 = 8.2 hours of pure highway driving a day.

I am 92K and rolling right along. No problems to this point. Only part replaced was cross threaded injector pump at about 3K miles that developed a small leak. Truck went in that morning and was done after work. No downtime at the shop. Did one very early transmisson reflash for shift busyness and that was on my lunch break. But thats been it.

Truck has been STELLAR. Some of you know I towed a 11Klb trailer through the Mojave Desert and to PHX Arizona when the weather was topping 110 degrees.

With the GM New EXTENDED warranty I am even happier. Now just drive it til the wheels fall off. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Hi all,

2002 Duramax/Allison 4x4 Extended Cab ABC Bed

103,132 Total miles

At 40,000 miles the Duramax required

Two new fuel rail delv systems and all injectors

At 78,000 miles the Duramax required all injectors again!

Now at 103,000 miles the Chevrolet Truck requires a new half case and a complete rebuild on the transfer case

The Truck has always been serviced by the dealer including oil filters, transmission fluid, and fuel and air filters.

The reason the half case needs replaced is the bushing inside the case rubs against the case until a hole appears and all the oil drains out but this is not a Chevrolet problem however you can not buy a new transfer case anywhere with Chevrolet

I must really love my truck huh?

Like A Rock! Ha what a joke!
