Anyone know how tight we're supposed to crank 'em?

I'm rotating tires this weekend.

Thanks,

Terel

Thanks a bunch, guys. I'll get a shop manual soon.

Appreciate the help.

In another thread, I read how someone tightened lug nuts to 140 (as per spec) only to ruin threads on 2 out of 10 studs. His torque wrench could have been out of adjustment, user error, etc. Nonetheless, I'm worried about snugging them down that tight after reading his post. Can anyone offer some reassurance, or should I just back my wrench off to 120?

I tightened them as tight as I could with a 4 way, no strippage. *shrugs*

terel......... go for 140 no less and not much more. If they are too tight the expansion will get the best of them, more over if you apply "lot's" of TQ to the wheels...ie pulling and or power adders. 120 ft lbs may not be enough to stretch the bolts to "snug", which will keep them from worbbleing the pockets. However, too much on the ft. lbs will not allow for expansion, therefor the "lugs" will snap. Also, "over tightening" the lugs can warp your rotors. When you take the wheel off look at what holds the wheel to the truck.... yep, just one in the middle. The "lugs" are there to keep it clean and easy. Keep it close to 140 and it shouldn't let ya down.
