We took a trip north to Lake City, CO last week pulling our Raptor Toy Hauler full of gear and two ATV's...weighs nearly 15k lbs. We upgraded from an 05 LLY CCLB Dually to a new 06 CCLB Dually. THe LBZ certainly has more power, but is also much quieter and yielded better mileage on the same route than our LLY. The EGT's are lower as well, and seems to make more boost. We averaged 10.5 MPG over the trip, which made me very happy, especially since it had only 650 miles on it when we left. (I changed the oil and rear diff fluid before we left) Overall, I am very impressed with the truck. Our 05 was very nice, but this new engine is even more impressive, and the 6 speed Allison performed flawlessly. The engine fan does not run as much, even when it is hot outside, and when it does run, it's much quieter. Coolant temps would run up to about 220 and then the fan would come on and the temps would quickly come down to around 190-200, even when pulling up Slumgollian pass...a 8 mile pull with an average gradient of 8.5% that tops out at 11,300 ft. Looks like they got the cooling part fixed, allthough my 05 never really overheated. The only fly in the ointment was after we filled up back in Albuquerque last night we drove through a torrential rain storm, and the SES light came on when going up a long hill...it's still on but on-star said not to be alarmed, it should reset once everything dries out. All in all I'm impressed!

Just read the article on the dually shootout in Truckin magazine, this month. The performance of the Chevy, hands down the leader both loaded and unloaded!:ro)

Sorry I'm so late in responding. I could easily maintain the posted speed limit, which was 30 mph. Some of the switch backs I would slow down to go around at 10 mph, but it would accelerate pretty easily once I exitted the apex of the corner. The torque converter locks up in 2nd gear much faster than on the old 5 speed in my 05, so you can build boost pretty fast.
