: Visible Smoke at Idle

In the last 2 weeks I have noticed that the truck seems to be smoking more than usual - a light blue/white color. You can visibly see the smoke while standing next to the tailpipe and the odor seems to be much stronger than usual. All of the fluids appear to be at the correct level and it seems to run the same. The truck currently has 19,000 miles on it.

The only thing I can think of is that I cleaned the Amsoil airfilter last week for the first time and there was tons of oil in the bottom of the filter housing. I did not clean the MAF but was wondering if it was dirty/oily would it cause this apparent overfueling situation???

Any other ideas that may explain this?

Thanks

T.J. I think I am having the same problem. Only when cold though. Once the motor runs for a while it is OK. I know my MAF is dirty because it set a code. But I'm not sure this is the cause. I hope some others chime in. I can't stand it.

Any contamination of the MAF WILL cause incorrect readings,

use non chlorinated brake parts cleaner.(will not damage sensor)

try to avoid saturating your air filter with oil, your only supose to lightly apply oil .

use something that wont leave a film....

brake clean tends to leave a film....

I would be lookin also at injector data, cancel them out one at a time and see if it changes if access to tech-2Edited by: dmaxalliTech

What can be used to clean the MAF that doesnt leave a film?

I took the MAF out on Saturday and my suspicisions were correct - there was filter oil all over the MAF assembly - for the time being I used non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Is there something better than that to use - how about rubbing alcohol???

I removed the Amsoil filter for now and went back to a new paper filter. Would an AFE Stage 2 be better - or does it rely on the same oiling procedures?

Thanks
