: Looking for Transynd service in N. California
acehi 07-22-2006, 07:13 PM Does anyone know of a good place in Northern Cali that will change out the tranny fluid on my LBZ? I have gone to the Transynd website and searched for places within 200 miles of Sacramento and there are only 5 locations that can be found. I have called all of them and 3 of them don't do service, only sell the product and 2 of them will not work on my truck. They only work on heavy duty units such as buses and motorhomes. I would like someone reliable and all I want is the fluid and filters changed. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Jeff
chipper 07-22-2006, 09:50 PM Buy the fluid & find a private quick lube to change it for you.DO NOT let them use a hi pressure change pump. It will damage a "o" ring in the tranny according to previous reports.

Have you tried these guys? Can't speak for their work quality but their part prices are great compared to some of the other Allison Dealers. TranSynd @ $30 / gal. Spin on filters @ $9 / ea.

acehi 07-23-2006, 01:43 AM Valley Power Systems was one of the names listed from the Transynd website that I did my search on. The site says they do maintenance on the 1000 series tranny but when I called them, they said they don't work on tranny's on pickup trucks, only larger vehicles. Any suggestions on where to buy the fluid in this area? Thanks,
Jeff

You can get the TranSynd Fluid & Allison filters from Valley Power Systems, Inc. 855 Stillwater Road West Sacramento. See my earlier post for prices. Just bought from them last Thursday.
Like demp223 said, Ken Imler Diesel is excellent for work / repairs. They installed my gauges / cool down timer.

Thanks for the info.
jmg343 07-24-2006, 01:40 AM Imler is great but so busy that he is often backed up a week or even two. You could try Valley Transmission in Santa Rosa, CA on Piner Rd. The guy to talk to is Marc Puccinelli. You may need to bring him the fluid, but he'll do it either way, even if he has to go out to get the fluid. He refreshed/rebuilt my suncoast/allison.
gparrish 07-24-2006, 06:27 PM This is a maintenance activity that anyone can do in their driveway. I purchased my Transynd and filter from the local Alison dealer and did my transmission fluid change this past weekend. I was surprised at how easy it was. I printed out the instructions from this website on the "Hoot Method" and got it done in less than 2 hours.
Prior to beginning, I measured quarts of water into a 5 gallon bucket and marked the inside with a black marker for each quart, and wrote numbers on each half gallon line. I removed the plug and caught the fluid that drained, then removed and replaced the spin on filter, and removed the pan. The magnet on the spin on had very little fine back material on it. The fluid was a dark maroon, but did not smell burnt. There was almost 2 quarts remaining in the pan, which surprised me. After pouring the fluid from the old filter and from the pan into the 5 gallon bucket I was at the 2 gallon mark. I added 2 gallons back to the transmission through the dipstick tube, then connected some 5/8 ID clear vinyl hose to the return line from the transmission cooler, started the truck, and pumped out 1 gallon, cut truck off, filled 1 more gallon, then started truck and ran until the color changed, it was apparent when the last of the old fluid came out and the new began to come out. This last amount was about 2 quarts, which put the level in the 5 gallon bucket at about 3.5 gallons. I added 1 quart and checked the level with the dipstick. It showed on the cold mark (truck running on level ground, temperature about 100 degrees). I held the brake and shifted through the gears, checked for leaks one more time, and then drove it for about 35 minutes to get it up to operating temperature. I added an additional quart to the dipstick tube as indicated to bring it up to nearly the top of the 'HOT" range.
